The Cubs are expected to look for a veteran, innings-eating starter this offseason instead of bidding on Cliff Lee.
The Chicago Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer lists Javier Vazquez, Jake Westbrook and Kevin Millwood as possibilities. The Cubs lack stability in the rotation beyond Ryan Dempster, so any of the three would make sense. Wittenmyer suggests the Cubs would prefer to only commit one or two years to whomever they sign.

What? I would like to think Cliff Lee would eat up some quality innings.

I'm really starting to hate the new regime.

It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that no team but the Yanks have any chance with Lee.  And that includes the Rangers.  All the kind and sweet things that Lee said about Texas were leverage points to push the dollar value up for the final contract that he'll eventually sign with New York.

I realize that, but the Cubs should be in on a guy like Lee and not talk about acquiring 3rd tier pitchers like they are saviors.

At least you're not in on Jarrod Washburn like a certain team to the north.

Uggla is a smart hitter who works deep counts, unafraid to hit with two strikes on him. He strikes out a lot but makes pitchers work almost every time up, averaging 4.2 pitches per plate appearance. He would be a big step forward toward changing the tone of a Cubs' lineup in which guys just go up and hack.

The Cubs' best average in 2010 was 4.1 pitches per plate appearance, by Kosuke Fukudome, whom Hendry is trying to dump.
The second-best total among regulars, believe it or not, was Geo Soto, at 4.0. Marlon Byrd, celebrated by many for his contributions, was at 3.5, a ridiculously low total, and rookie Starlin Castro (3.6) was barely better.

This tells you everything you know why this front office sucks and needs to be cleaned out.

C'mon, dude.  Walks just clog up the bases, you know?  I mean, you don't walk guys in...you hit them in.  Am I right?

Come on, dude.  I mean, I'm a good-looking dude, am I right?

You are NOT right.
