They have many needs, that's true, but they also have an owner who is in deep debt after buying the team and is slashing payroll.  It's going to take a couple more seasons like last year until some of the bloated contracts come off the books and some of the young talent in the minors makes it's way to the big league roster.  Then Ricketts will have to open up the checkbook and get an impact player or two.

For $1.5M and one season, the Wood deal is not bad, especially if he pitches like he did for the Yanks; if he blows out his arm, well we kind of expect that anyway.

You don't slash payroll by handing out a 10m deal to a guy who failed to hit .200.

For the record, re-signing Wood is a reason the Cubs suck.   They have many other needs but bringing Wood back will make the fans happy.
Wrong as usual, but thanks for your input.

You can say that if you'd like but the Cubs, as always, are more intent on making a fanbase go "YAY!! We like him!!!" than winning games.

They're gonna suck in 2010, and I'm glad the owners aren't letting Hendry give massive long-term deals to ****** players, as he's been doing for years. That way, they're limiting the suck factor to when the bloated contracts start coming off the books. The $10M to a .196 hitter makes me lol, but it's only one year, and it does seem probable that he'll have a better year next year than he did in 2010. Plus, he can field, which is *always* something the Cubs suck at.

And you're actually giving the Cubs **** for bringing Wood back, after the Skanks gave Derek Peter how many millions? ******* idiot.

Yanks win, Cubs don't.   Maybe that's the difference between the signings.   Dumbass.
12/19/2010 3:52 PM
$50Mish difference, dumbfuck.

Playoffs and "Wait til next year!!", dipshit.

HELL YES, WELCOME BACK KERRY WOOD!!!

I know he's not all that great, but he's one of my alltime favorite Cubs!! **** YES!!!
King of Dumbassery.

Hundred of thousands Cubs fans said the same thing.   If you accept mediocrity, management will give it to you.   And Cubs do nothing if not accept mediocrity.  Next year is always coming.

"Accept mediocrity?" The Cubs are going to suck in the next few years. That's a fact, and it's a consequence of having one of the worst GMs in baseball. What am I supposed to do, start a riot?

The next few years?    Yeah, that's accepting mediocrity.   Good for you.

With the Cardinals, Reds, and Brewers all looking great on paper heading into the season, the Cubs'll probably win the division somehow, lol.

Cards & Brewers look good on paper? Are you high?
