Ripping off ESPN -> Trout vs Cabrera MVP Topic

Anyone look at their stats over the last 30 days of the season? While both were in a playoff race Cabrerra excelled, Trout folded.

Come on now, the entire season counts equally.

A lot of the new baseball metrics are overcomplicated garbage
Conceived by statnerds so they can say "Look how smart I am!!"

Most probably don't even understand baseball.   Plenty of HBD players are clueless to actual baseball but they can work numbers.
This sounds like sour grapes from someone too stupid to understand advanced metrics.

And that sounds like a statnerd saying "Look how smart I am!!!"

I'd compare intelligence, on any matter, with you any day of the week.

Touting WAR and VORP doesn't make you a genius.

Do they?   Or do some people prefer players who come thru when they need them to come thru?

King of the Statnerds:

Does he look like someone who's ever even thrown a ball?

What was that "Advanced Metric" I loved so?   The one that determined a pitcher's value based only on walks, strikeout and homers?     That was extremely advanced.    ************* genius that was.

Trout was too good in July.  Should have saved some hits for September....

Wins are wins, whether it's April or September.

And yes, Trout folded, with his .900 OPS in September.  Terrible.

Very few people remember an A-Rod stretch in April.    Do it in October and you'll be the talk of the town.

Nature of the beast.   You don't have to believe in clutch to know that the game is different in September.

Oh, then you meant xFIP.

Umm not quite.

.257 .380 .455 in Sept  now I may be off but .380 +.455 < .900

.308 .378 .654 for Miggy over the same stretch

They're more intense, yes.  The games feel different.  But a win is a win.  If Trout doesn't dominate over the summer, there isn't talk of "Will the Angels make the playoffs?" in September.
