What would you do to change the process?

I don't know. I know complaining about something without offering a solution is pointless, but something needs to be changed. Allowing guys like Murray Chass to decide Hall of Fame membership doesn't make much sense. For the most part, BBWAA members aren't any better at evaluating players than you or me.

I would change the process of adding voters.  If you cover golf as your primary profession, you shouldn't get a vote.

It doesn't matter.  The point is more, why does this obviously incompetent writer have a vote?

The ironic part is that she didn't vote for suspected steroid users, and I could easily make a case for Shawn Green using.  It's interesting that he was a 15 HR hitter and then suddenly was popping 40+ at a time.
I think it doesn't matter either.   One writer ****** away a ballot.    570ish were cast.   No one was within one vote of making it.    Get back to me when someone gets 74.92% of the vote and then I'll wring my hands with you.

That's certainly possible.  If 2010 was Blyleven's last shot, he would have missed by 5 votes.  I'm sure there are more than a few golf writers and idiots like this woman.

It's possible.   But I'm not sure that Blyleven was a "sure fire" HOFer.   I don't think the HOF will miss Biggio if he never makes it.  Baseball history will be OK.

Exactly. Biggio fell 39 votes short this year. This idiot, the blank "statement" ballots, golf writers, etc, could very well have cost him the election. He'll probably get in sometime in the next few years, but there's no guarantee. Pedophile Bill Conlin voted for Raines the first time Raines was on the ballot. Then stopped voting for him after that.

This **** isn't brain surgery. There is no excuse for not voting for Biggio.

I'm not worried about Biggio. Some voters feel only the elite, "best of the best" deserve the distinction of being first ballot HOFers - and honestly, I don't have a problem with that, if they think "first ballot" is a special distinction in itself. Biggio will get well over 80% next season.

Sure there is an "excuse" to not vote for Biggio, he's not a first ballot hall of famer

No such thing. You're either a Hall of Famer or you aren't.

"I don't think the HOF will miss Biggio if he never makes it.  Baseball history will be OK."

I agree.     OPS+   Biggio 112, Bernie Williams 125

Bernie should be a shoo-in.

Maybe Biggio's just not a Hall of Famer.

Looks to me that he's no Bernie Williams.

He's not, yet. But he deserves to be.

Is OPS+ the only criteria for Hall of Fame?

Bernie 125

Albert Belle 144

Albert should be a shoo-in!
