My guess:

Toronto 90-72
Tampa Bay 86-76
New York 85-77
Boston 78-84
Baltimore 75-87

Yanks only get to play 160?  That's ****** up.
3/22/2013 7:11 PM
Ugggghhh. FINE they can play 162.
3/22/2013 7:13 PM
C'mon!!!  They can't play .500 in those two?
3/22/2013 7:18 PM
Haha. No. I had "85 wins" in my head, got the losses wrong.

I'll go with:

Toronto 94-68
New York - 89-73
Baltimore - 88-74
Tampa - 80-82
Red Sox - 74-88

I question anyone who puts Tampa in the top two in this division. Who's going to hit for them? And losing Shields and Davis will hurt them a bit. Unless Myers comes up fast and starts mashing, they'll struggle to hit .500.

I have them losing 4 more games than they did last year. Losing Shields hurts, but I'd expect Moore to take another step forward this year. Longoria for a full year helps. Escobar is probably an upgrade at SS. Jennings will likely have a better year than last year. They still have one of the better pitching staffs in baseball - I would be very surprised if they weren't a .500 team at minimum.

I agree with your comments burnsy.

JT, I like Tampa for the div actually

Honestly, I'm surprised people think Toronto is gonna take it.  You can buy talent, but not chemistry.  Didn't the Marlins prove that last year?

I like Tampa but the Yanks are there too.  I like their arms

Yea, I think a lot has to do with the rest of the division.  Toronto obviously got better.  Yankees got worse, Tampa probably got worse, Baltimore will be worse...Toronto has some hitters and that rotation is money.  I don't know what happened in Miami last year, but I don't think chemistry will be Toronto's issue.

New York - 92-70
Toronto - 90-72
Tampa Bay - 87-75
Baltimore - 82-80
Boston - 73-89

I actually give Toronto and TB both a higher probability of winning the division, as I mentioned earlier.  I have them both with a much larger standard deviation in likely performance; I'd be really surprised if New York won anything outside of the 87-95 range.

You know what would turn the division on it's rear?  If Johnny Gomes blasted 40+ homers!!!!!!!!

Not unless Lackey remembers how to pitch, I'm not sure that would be enough to do much...  When Bautista hit 54 it only carried the Blue Jays to 85 wins, which won't be enough to threaten the top spots, much less "turn the division on it's rear."

ESPN's analysis actually ranked the division Jays, Rays, Orioles, Yankees, Red Sox in their MLB preview, but I don't buy it.  I wish it would end up looking something like that.  At least at the bottom.

The brain tells me Boston will stink, my optimism says "LOOK AT THAT BULLPEN!!!"

That's why they play the games

Jackie Bradley Jr. = Kenny Lof...  I couldn't finish typing that without laughing

Rick Ankiel, Erik Bedard-  stars of the game!  Who knew?

Hope weather permits the Sox-Yanks clash tomorrow.  Excited for Bostons 3 CFer alignment in the OF.  Well, alignment is used improperly, I'M EXCITED TO SEE HOW ATHLETIC THEIR OUTFIELD IS WITH THREE CENTERFIELDERS OUT THERE!!!
