So now you're bunting Davis and Weiters?
Yes. And?
Well, it's retarded for one thing.

You're down by 1 in the 9th and you're asking your two sluggers to lay down bunts.

Secondly, it's retarded to ask your two best sluggers to lay down a bunt when down by 1 in the 9th.

Finally, there's a lot of retarded things one could do when down by 1 in the 9th but the most retarded thing would be asking your two best sluggers to bunt.
I've never agreed more with Mike.
If Weiters was one of their best hitters (or sluggers) I might agree with him too.

And if Davis could get a bunt down to the left side, I'd take that every time leading off the ninth.  Because again, nobody's upset when he lines a single.

If I could get him lining a single, I'd take that every time leading off the 9th too.   Because there's the off chance he puts it in the seats.   That ain't happening with a bunt.

Right, the point is you're happy when he gets a single.  If he knows how to bunt well, then bunt and get your single.

BTW, Weiters is 4th in homers, 5th in SLG on the Orioles.

I guess I'm giving these guys too much credit.  They can crush a 98 MPH fastball 500 feet, but bunting is hard.  I don't really get it.

Yes, so not one of their best sluggers.

You're assuming he knows how to bunt and can execute it properly when they're pitching him the absolutely worst location possible for hijm to do so.

Face it, taking the bat out of his hands in a 1 run game is stupid.  Admit it and move on.

If it's someone as good as Chris Davis is playing now, I do get it.  For the vast majority of baseball players, I don't think it's dumb if you know how to bunt.

Do the vast majority of players get the extreme overshift?

You're also assuming he's getting pitched in the same spot all the time.  If the slugger knew the pitch would be on the inside corner, he'd be crushing the ball most of the time.

Ever heard of pitch type, speed and elevation?

Instead of teaching him to bunt, why not try and teach him to use the whole field so the shift is worthless?

Few inside pitches are breaking balls for strikes.

I guess there's that, too.  But I would think bunting is easier than learning how to hit differently.

Tell Rivera his cutter on lefties is seldom a strike.
