2014 BBWAA HOF ballot released today. Topic

For some reason, I sense only Maddux gets elected this year, even though there are about 12-15 serious candidates.

I'll bet Glavine goes in with him.

That's it just Glavine & Maddux? Bobby Cox should join them too!

WAR, ************!!!
If you want, we can go over the candidacy of every player on the list in detail. WAR is just a nice starting point to narrow it down.

For example (and ignoring PED issues), just looking at WAR we can see that Clemens and Bonds are automatic slam dunks that don't really require any analysis.

It also allows us to quickly eliminate guys we might have thought were borderline (Don Mattingly, for example).

I would've thought Piazza's would be higher, but he still should've been a 1st ballot guy. He might get the Robby Alomar treatment where his total jumps about 25% and gets easily elected this year.

I think, absent the ridiculous steroid suspicion, he'd be in already.

My ballot:

Biggio, Glavine, Maddux, Thomas.
11/27/2013 1:16 PM
Just curious, why Thomas but not Bagwell?

Their numbers are close and there's no reason to suspect Bagwell was on PEDs. At least no reason that doesn't also exist for Thomas and Biggio.
11/27/2013 1:26 PM
Because Bagwell was on PEDs and Thomas and Biggio were not.

Therein lies the problem. You can say with absolute certainty Thomas & Biggo were not taking PED's? Your stance seems about on par with most HOF voters, unfortunately.

Because Bagwell was on PEDs and Thomas and Biggio were not.
But no one knows that.

There is no evidence that Bagwell was on PEDs other than the fact that he played in the 1990's and 2000's. Biggio and Thomas also played during those decades.

Everyone assumes because Bagwell was teammates with Ken Caminiti that they were roiding together. Wouldn't Biggio be linked to Caminiti also? Ridiculous argument to accuse players of using PED's unless they failed a drug test period!

There's absolutely no evidence that Piazza was on PEDs. He should have been first ballot. Tec, I can't see why he wouldn't be on your ballot, either.
