Where's Sutter?

I think you should combine LF and RF into one group (just have more people in that group than the other positions) and just say pitchers (don't separate SP and RP).

Starting pitching is a monster. I'm tempted to break it up into groups: pre-1910, pre-1969, and 1969 forward. Instead I'm going to keep them grouped as one, probably unfairly favoring pitchers from the modern era.

Roger Clemens
Walter Johnson
Cy Young
Christy Mathewson
Tom Seaver
Lefty Grove
Randy Johnson
Greg Maddux
Pete Alexander
Warren Spahn
Kid Nichols
Bob Gibson
Pedro Martinez
Steve Carlton
Phil Niekro

Where he belongs. The bar is extremely high for pitchers who weren't good enough to cut it as starters.

LF and RF ended up with 4 each, so it worked out.

I think there is a big difference between starters and relievers. If all pitchers were grouped together no relievers would make it.

CF is the easiest:

Mays
Cobb
Speaker
Mantle
You forgot Griffey.

RP is another easy one:

Eckersley
Rivera
Wilhelm

You forgot Trevor Hoffman.

And DiMaggio.

None of those three were forgotten. They just didn't make the cut.

Joe DiMaggio doesn't make the cut for your HOF?

'Nuff said.

Possibly the biggest star in baseball in his era.   Yeah, obviously not HOF-material.

Was he better than the 4 that made it? I'd probably put Griffey in before DiMaggio and I don't think either was better than the 4 that made it.

Maybe your HOF is too small?
8/1/2014 11:27 AM
Sure, that's a legit argument. The actual HOF standards that allow players like Beltre and Jeter in are probably better.
8/1/2014 11:34 AM
Why are you grouping Jeter with Beltre?
