Yankees 2015 (33-25) - 2.5 Game Lead Topic

Yankees drop the series finale to the Birds with a 7-5 loss at Camden Yards last night, dropping to 3-6 on the season.

Nathan Eovaldi was unimpressive in 5 innings of work, allowing 8 hits and 3 walks.  But he did leave the game with a 3-2 lead.  The bullpen promptly imploded with Carpenter, Wilson and Martin getting smacked around for 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The only bright spots for the Yanks last night was Beltran just missing a 3-run homer in the third by around 3 inches, instead settling for a 2-run double off the top of the wall in RCF.  And ARod crushed a Bud Norris pitch in the top of the fourth for a bomb into the LF stands for his second of the year.

A night off tonight, then on to Tampa for the weekend.

FRENCH TOAST!!!

Big night for ARod at the Trop.  He goes 3-4 with two home runs (numbers 3 and 4 on the season), and drives in four of the Yankees 5 runs in a 5-4 win over the Rays.  Stephen Drew drives in the other run with his 3rd of the season.

Adam Warren only goes 4 innings, allowing all 4 Rays runs of the night on back to back HR's by Dykstra and Forsythe in the bottom of the 4th.

Yankees bullpen redeems itself following Wednesday night's meltdown with 5 shutout innings (2 hits, no walks, 7 K's).

Tanaka back on the mound tonight for his third start of the season.

Yanks win big against the Rays as Tanaka comes up big in a 9-0 blowout last night.

Tanaka finally gets his **** together, pitches 7 scoreless allowing only 2 hits (no walks) and strikes out 8.  Nice efficient night for him, only throwing 85 pitches over 7.

Games was scoreless through the first 5 until McCann knocked in the first two runs of the night with a triple in the top of the sixth.  Then the Yankees blow it open in the seventh with a seven-run outburst, capped by a Chris Young grand slam.

Final game of the series this afternoon with Michael Pineda on the mound hoping to complete the sweep.

4/19/2015 8:18 AM
Yankees complete the sweep in Tampa, move out of the basement and into third place, only a game out of first in the East.

Pineda goes 5 innings to improve his record to 2-0.  The bullpen once again is asked to give a lot of innings, throwing 4 scoreless.  Miller picks up his 4th save of the season.

Three of the Yankee runs scored on "productive outs" . . . two sac flies and a fielders choice ground out.  I guess they didn't get the memo that "all outs are the same"

Replace those three outs with three strikeouts, three runs come off the board, and it's a 3-2 loss.

Weird, huh?

Next up is a four game series in Detroit, starting tonight with CC on the mound.

So you're saying 60% if their runs came off of outs?   And none of those outs was a strikeout?

Insane.

Yankees drop the opener in Motown in a tight 2-1 loss to the Tigers at Comerica.

CC goes the distance for the Yankees first complete game of the season, giving the bullpen a well-deserved rest.  Sabathia (0-3) allows 7 hits and walks three over eight innings and 98 pitches.  Teixiera hits his 4th HR of the season to provide the only scoring for NYY.

Eovaldi (0-0, 4.35) gets the ball tonight in game 2 of the series.

The Bombers move above .500 for the first time all season with back to back wins against the Tigers on Tuesday night (5-2) and Wednesday night (13-4).

Nathan Eovaldi (1-0, 3.12) picked up his first win in pinstripes with a well pitched 7 inning, one run outing on Tuesday..  Chris Young kept up his hot hitting for the season with 3 hits (single, double, homer) and 2 walks.  Stephen Drew also added his fourth of the season.

Young added three more hits on Wednesday night as the Yanks jumped all over Tiger starter David Price, scoring 6 runs in the top of the first to set the pace for the game.  Adam Warren did his damnedest to try to give it all back when he surrendered 4 in the bottom of the first, but then he settled in and shut Detroit down over the next 4.2 innings before being pulled at 101 pitches.  Wilson, Carpenter and Shreve shut down the Tigers with another 3.1 IP of scoreless pitching out of the pen.

Yankees close out the Detroit series this afternoon with Tanaka on the mound.  The Yanks then head home for a weekend series with the best team in baseball (WTF???), the New York Mets.

Yanks take 3 out of 4 from the Detroit Kittens with a 2-1 victory on a cold night at Comerica.

Tanaka with his second consecutive strong start, allowing only 3 hits and 1 run in 6.1 before being lifted in the bottom of the seventh of a 1-1 game.  He gets the no-decision.

The Yankees took the lead in the top of the eighth as Jacoby Ellsbury led off the inning with a double, and was then moved to third on a sac bunt by Gardner (productive out #1).  Then, after an intentional walk to Beltran to set up the oh-so-evil potential double play, Ellsbury scored when Brian McCann grounded to first (productive out #2).  Chase Headley ended the Yankee inning with a non-productive strikeout.

Andrew Miller pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his sixth save of the season.

Back home tonight to take on the Mets.  Pineda gets the start against Jacob deGrom.

ARod's leadership has them in first place!
4/24/2015 10:50 AM
So slow-*** McCann hit a grounder to the infield with runner on first and it wasn't a double play?   Insanity!!!!
4/24/2015 10:52 AM
Yanks bitchslap the Mets in the opener of their weekend Subway Series by a score of 6-1 to remain tied for first place with the BloSux.

Mark Teixeira provided the big hits of the night with a pair or two run homers, one in the first and one in the third, giving him 7 for the season.  Ellsbury also hit his first of the season in the third inning.

Michael Pineda (3-0, 3.86) had another solid outing, scattering 5 hits over 7.2 IP while walking none.

Game 2 Saturday at 4:05pm.  CC takes on Matt Harvey.
