The greatest defensive player of his generation and one of the greatest ever is retiring at the end of the year.

It's sickening how ESPN has been fellating this criminal showboat and calling him "a sure Hall-of-Famer" when he's been indicted for obstructing justice in a DOUBLE MURDER case, while villifying Barry Bonds, who was indicted for obstructing justice in a steroid case.

Football players seem to get a pass for bad off-field behavior.   Rothlisberger gets knobjobs constantly from the announcers as did Vick before he went to ****.  Donte Stallworth was never mentioned after his hit/run and there was an offensive lineman that did the same thing that I never heard about until Stallworth killed a man.   Jared Allen had a million DUIs.    Hell, Dwayne Bowe wore a shirt saying "This is for....." or something like that after the LB killed his girlfriend 2 days earlier.

Lewis needs to be hired by the U as a defensive coach and recruiter. They need more criminals to get back to being the force they once were.

It isn't just football player, all professional athletes get passes for off field behavior.  It is just the on-field stuff that is problematic.

All professional athletes get at least some degree of a pass for off the field stuff, but there's no question football players get the most latitude.  Football is king.

And since the comparison started with Bonds, if by "on the field" stuff, you mean steroids, nobody cares about that with football players either.

People don't seem to care about purity in football the way they do in baseball. Two Seattle CB's got suspended for PED's, one got off on a technicality, and it got treated the same as if the one guy missed games because of an injury.

Yep.

Is there any greater irony than Roger Goddell dismantling the Saints over the bounty scandal, then beaming from ear to ear while he embraces a murderer on the sidelines before the Colts-Ravens game?

Maybe with the retirement, Lewis will have time to serve his murder sentence.
