patriots are now what the bruins used to be/sux still are:

not willing to pay to acquire/keep elite talent. their strategy is let's hope this group of non-stars/grinders can overperform and win it all!
They've paid to keep Brady, Mankins, Wilfork, Mayo, Gronk and Hernandez.

Funny, this strategy has allowed them to be one of the best teams for 13 years.

That's just a dumb blanket statement.  They view the slot position as one that can be easily replaced.  Pats had this same situation when they replace Troy Brown with Welker.  They'll be fine.
when's the last super bowl they won? isn't that the goal every season? methinks the bill/brady magic done ran out years ago and they're beating a dead horse

Maybe Welker didn't care about money and was just sick and tired of carrying Brady's over rated *** to stats and victories.
Dumbass.

Who was their "elite" talent they spent for when they won all the SB's?

It just speaks volumes about your intelligence level when you make such genus comments as "dumbass".

I'll be laughing this next season when Brady is throwing a much higher percentage of his passes to TEs and struggles compared with last season. Maybe if you aren't in too much denial you'll learn your precious Brady isn't that **** great after all.

Surely you don't think today's Pats compare well to those teams talent-wise.

Face it, BB thinks it's his system that wins.   I think he knows he needs a triggerman but even Cassell looked good in NE.

What is happening in NE is that BB thinks he's bigger than the team.  His ego is the undoing.

It was the system that makes the team win (whether that is BB or others is up for debate). The Super Bowl wins came in years when the team had less talent but a **** of a lot more luck on their side (not to mention some favorable calls and the cheating that helped too).

The ironic thing is the recent Pats have been far more talented and yet they choke in the playoffs EVERY YEAR, with their over rated QB choking more than anyone. Yet no one looks at their failures, particularly those of that QB.

Let's see how Brady does when many of his reads go like this: Gronk, Hernandez...uhh...Amendola, Woodhead...somebody help cause god knows I can't make a play myself!

Maybe NE should shore up that offensive line because Brady is going to need it with no Welker as his security blanket.

And if that isn't true, you'll be raving about how great a talent Amendola is.

Amendola is a decent WR and he should do fine. I'm sure Brady will be dumping the ball off to him as much as he can every time he panics and doesn't know what else to do (and forgets he doesn't have Welker there).

So Amendola's numbers should rise no matter what happens, as any receivers would when Brady can't figure out what to do and dumps it off to whoever is underneath. Unless someone else takes that role on, then that person will show a rise in numbers. Brady's outlet always catches a ton of passes unless he has several who rotate, and then the group will catch a ton of passes combined.

If only every QB was smart enough to "dump it off" to an open receiver 8 yards down the field, rather than try to force a ball to someone who isn't open.

"Brady can't figure out what to do" - is he a dumb QB now too?
3/14/2013 2:35 PM
Every QB doesn't have a great route runner like Welker who is open virtually all the time. Now Brady doesn't either, so the Pats will have to find someone who can do it at least some of the time (maybe Amendola, maybe someone else) or else you'll REALLY find out how much you over rate Brady when no one gets open consistently and he starts struggling.

The question then becomes: Does Brady do what most other QBs do, and try to actually make plays, resulting in his INTs going up - or does he just throw the ball away a lot more and/or take a ton more sacks?

Bottom line: It's easy to succeed when you have a guy who is open almost every time and never have to make a play yourself.  Most QBs don't have that luxury, but Brady has had it for some time now.

On a side note, Peyton is going to be awesome with Welker coming open underneath for him all the time.  Welker just might set the receptions record.  Then again, Peyton actually makes plays downfield, so he might not have to dump off to Walker as often as Brady did, so maybe not.

So if his numbers don't change much, we'll put Amendola on the same level as Welker, right?  It couldn't possibly be Brady?

Hahaha!!!!

So wait - Peyton will be better with Welker, but Welker was just a safety valve who made Brady better than he is?

And FWIW - I don't care if my QB completes passes to a WR, RB, TE or himself as long as he's completing passes and not turning it over. You destroy your credibility because the arguments you use against Brady are the same ones you use in favour if other QBs.

I never thought I'd ever end up defending Tom Brady. Thanks a lot, jackass
3/14/2013 2:58 PM
If Amendola is the guy who is charged with getting open so Brady has a safety valve and Amendola does that even somewhat successfully, he will get his chances, because Brady NEEDS that outlet guy.

Without it, he'll either be forced to make more plays (something he doesn't have the skill to do consistently) - and he'll end up throwing more INTs and his completion percentage will drop - or he'll be eating a lot of dirt when he holds the ball forever waiting for someone to get open.
