Mark me down for Bumper Crop please  ( one question - at least half salary must be spent on these players - so not all players need to come from draft year chosen? )

No, not all of the players need to come from that particular draft year.

Half of your salaries (which would be $45,000,000) need to be spent on any number of players
from your chosen year.

1979 draft:

  Bourque, Raymond (D) 2000-01 Colorado Avalanche 80/82 7 52 59 0/0(0.0%) 48 216 3.24 82 6,767,979
Anderson, Glenn (RW) 1989-90 Edmonton Oilers 73/80 34 38 72 179/362(49.4%) 107 204 16.67 45 4,045,008
Crossman, Doug (D) 1983-84 Philadelphia Flyers 78/80 7 28 35 0/0(0.0%) 63 160 4.38 75 5,097,063
Krushelnyski, Mike (LW) 1984-85 Edmonton Oilers 80/80 43 45 88 200/404(49.5%) 60 187 22.99 73 7,905,896
Steen, Thomas (C) 1992-93 Winnipeg Jets 80/84 22 50 72 415/820(50.6%) 75 150 14.67 39 2,702,039
Stastny, Anton (LW) 1981-82 Quebec Nordiques 68/80 26 46 72 286/569(50.3%) 16 135 19.26 33 3,098,535
Broten, Neal (C) 1985-86 Minnesota North Stars 80/80 29 76 105 580/1145(50.7%) 47 193 15.03 69 5,913,483
Goulet, Michel (LW) 1986-87 Quebec Nordiques 75/80 49 47 96 191/387(49.4%) 61 276 17.75 42 5,023,571
  Ramsey, Mike (D) 1989-90 Buffalo Sabres 73/80 4 21 25 0/0(0.0%) 47 91 4.40 82 4,774,549

This core of players comes to 46,000,000 dollars (approximately, I rounded to the nearst million).
If you liked this bumper crop from the '79 draft, you could then fill in the other roster spots with whoever you
wished.

You of course could also add

Gartner, Mike (RW) 1989-90 Minnesota North Stars 79/80 45 41 86 169/343(49.3%) 38 288 15.63 49 5,170,216
Propp, Brian (LW) 1981-82 Philadelphia Flyers 80/80 44 47 91 205/414(49.5%) 117 290 15.17 65 6,284,351
McCrimmon, Brad (D) 1983-84 Philadelphia Flyers 71/80 0 24 24 0/0(0.0%) 76 106 0.00 72 3,545,212

and spend 61,000,000 (or whatever)

but I thought it would just be too hard and too restrictive (in terms of viable draft years) to make all 23 spots come from the same draft crop.

I wanted to give a bit of flexibility in terms of using a Helman or an Arbour to free up some salary for other slots.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If you used the 71 draft, you could account for 50 million
using just the best seasons of Guy Lafleur, Marcel Dionne, Larry Robinson,
Rick Martin, Bill Hajt and Steve Vickers.   (But that then leaves you with 17 spots to fill with the leftover cash.)

My vision for this theme was two-fold:
either a team where the big super-stars were all from the chosen year, or,
a team that had a large number of its roster spots (but not necessarily its stars) filled from the chosen year

(or some middle ground between the 2)
