Hmmmm....I thought some folks would weigh in on the idea of playing a $70m team in an $80m league.

At a minimum I expected boogerlips to call me a knucklehead.

Yet another boring thread by teaparty. Now he's begging and complaining that no one will participate in his boring thread. When I beat you with that 68 million dollar waiver wire team, you should have had all of the information you needed on this subject. haha.

My post is exactly on topic. No, the starting pitching is extremely mediocre and doesn't stand a chance in an OL.  It's sad that you ask for opinions, people give it and then you complain and resort to name calling because you don't agree with it. Your statement above admits that you've invited people to "talk smack"  When you start a thread asking for opinions, you should be able to handle constructive criticism in a mature and responsible way.

crimson, indeed I asked for opinions on the topic of this thread.  Your comment was entirely off topic and did not address the chances of this or any $70m team in an $80m league.

BTW, there's an entire thread dedicated to how I am the worst person on this site.  Go and attack me over there, where it's on topic.

IMHO, you have a chance, but if you are going to handicap yourself $10M, you will need all the bargains you can muster.

Overall I like your pitching but I'd drop Maddux and get some deadball innings.  '19 Nehf + 08 Steele will get you sub 3.00 eras and save you a bunch of cash.

Now use the money saved to upgrade '04 Inge to '75 Carter.
If Punto is your 3B, look at '98 Loretta or '07 Loretta if you want to go really cheap.  Both offer more overall performance for the cost.  In the sim, near perfect fielding even with crappy range will net bargains at 3rd.
Save cash and upgrade performance by swapping '85 Pettis for '98 Nixon.
I think there are better choices up the middle Trammel and Councell.  Honestly, why would you take an offense first at short?  With that pitching staff ~C+ range is optimal and I'd be hesitant to go less than C range up the middle.
I like Dilone and I like Collins.  I think Anderson will disappoint you.  Fonding good triple hitters should take a back seat to finding bargains.

Although I did state that I was attempting this as a way to make OLs more challenging, the basic problem I'm having is that I'm getting bored. I just play one team at a time. As we discussed elsewhere in this forum, my last team was an attempt to see if I could make the playoffs with a bigkahuna-type of team. We scored 8.7 runs per game and indeed made the playoffs (unlike your recent Coors team, I didn't win the WS). My current team is just the opposite: 2.50 ERA and an anemic offense.

That said, I didn't choose Carter, Nehf, Steele (and Joss, for that matter) for this team because I've used them ad nauseum, while Punto and Pettis are two of my favorite real-life players (and Punto especially is cheap).

Maddux is undoubtedly too expensive for a $70m team (I'm actually using him out of the bullpen right now, just for fun; he just picked up a 3-inning save). I would improve my chances by scrapping him. I was actually thinking of dropping him for Joss, which would add 106 stud innings for about $2m.

But you're right: I can clearly make some changes to improve my chances of making the playoffs. Thanks.

I agree, OLs have gotten boring and I like the idea of setting your own limits in OLs to change things up.  I have done it myself.  Good luck to you.

Looks like your going to be seeing some fatigue because of low PA and IP.  Not surprising because you are playing $10M short.  I always like to go Petco when I know I am going to short on PA and IP.  I don't actually know if it does save you any IP or PA's, but I feel like it does.
