101 Point Favorite! Topic

Tonight #1 Sonoma St (9-1) is a 101 point favorite in the CCAA in Rupp! Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

I had a team that seemed to be penalized too for not covering the spread.  I dominated games, but because teams ran a slow down against me, it was almost impossible to cover the spread.

I *think* Millsaps in D3 Rupp was a 103-ish point favorite over a conference mate last season.  Couldn't believe it when I saw it.

I'm a 107 point favorite at my Pittsburg St team in Iba tonight.  I know my RPI will take a hit due to my opponent and margin of victory isn't taken into consideration regarding RPI, but will my ranking take a hit if I don't cover?  I think the only way that I cover is if I can pitch a shutout....

I had no idea that the spread played into RPI. My wins often don't beat the spread.

How much of a plus is it when you win as an underdog? What kind of RPI hit do you take as a favorite if you don't cover? How is the spread determined?

Covering or failing to cover the spread has absolutely no effect whatsoever on a team's RPI, unless you fail to cover because you lost.

This is true...spread may effect ranking but it still is mostly window dressing since rpi is more important

Even on ranking I believe spread is capped at a certain level, so the 100 plus spreads really aren't affecting much.

I thought it was ridiculous when I was a 50 point favorite against some SimAI teams. 100+ is absolutely insane and tells me the model used to do the spread calculations could probably use an adjustment.

I don't know bistiza. keep an eye on Virginia State in the central conference of Knight DII.  There will be some well deserved 100 point spreads.  They could get shut out in a game this season

emy is right, spreads have no impact on RPI. i would also argue they have no impact on ranking. i believe margin of victory impacts ranking, but not if you beat some arbitrary spread. i think WIS knows those spreads sucks and would not use them in ranking teams, but i could be wrong...
