Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks were amazed by Taylor's feat when they heard about it after their victory in New Orleans.

"I never heard of nothing like that. That's like a video game," Anthony said, an incredulous look on his face. "How can you shoot 100 times, though?"

He continued, "No seriously, how? I'd love to know!"

That was my initial thought, how does one person get off 108 shots in a 40 minute game? FYI a dude on the other team scored 70 points on 34-44 shooting, lol.

I would love to see a boxscore for that game. To put the absurd 108 shots in perspective in the 3 NBA games last night no team took more than 85 shots. For even more perspective in the Utah - Toronto triple OT game about a week ago, Toronto took 108 shots and Utah took 93.

well Grinnell is known for their frenetic pace and getting a shot off every 12 seconds or something (as well as leading the country in scoring like 10 of the last 12 years or something crazy like that)...just their way of offense, so if a kid takes 80% of that team's shots like Taylor did, and if the other team is willing to go along with that pace, then this is what happens I guess.

Now, if Faith Bible had put the HD doubleteam Always on him, I'm sure he'd have gone, oh,  just 45/97 instead of 52/108 (**sarcasm intended**)

Couple notes:

1) That's a truckload of turnovers. 16 for one guy, 15 for the other.
2) The opposing coach must have been cool with the whole thing. Not running down the clock, not triple teaming Taylor, having his own guy put up 70 points.
3) 20 man roster is nuts, compared to 10 for the losing team.

Coach better reel in that Levin kid...he's got a mind of his own jacking up so many shots.

Kind of funny that Taylor also took more FTAs than the entire team of Faith Bible.

And how does Faith Bible's inside beast David Larson take 44 shots and drop 70 without taking more than 4 FTAs?  That's some serious matador defense by Grinnell on him.

I'd love to watch the full game video of this clash.

I heard Taylor say that they routinely bring in a fresh wave of 5 kids every minute or so....you know, just like HD.

Levin had 4 O-rebs, so I bet most of those were put backs - I'll allow it...

Having known the Grinnell system for years - I'm actually Facebook friends with two of their stars from about four years ago - the other team most likely wasn't cool with it. I can see the "not triple teaming Taylor" as an indication of being cool with it, but would you rather guarantee one guy not score or guarantee that the opposing team will score?

But as for "not running down the clock," that has to do with Grinnell, not his own team. They press and bring in a fresh batch of players every minute or so, so the pace is beyond hectic. They press you and come after you and don't give you time to think. I'd be amazed if they could hold the ball for even 15 seconds without getting the ball stolen, having a foul called, or getting a wide open shot.

I believe the second part. Larson is 34/44 from the field. A bet 20+ of his shots were wide open layups from broken press.

The 49 turnovers indicate the press absolutely killed them. I read an article where they said Grinnell is usually balanced and this one kid taking 108 shots is a massive anomaly. The writer even theorized that it was planned as a way of getting on Sportscenter and getting exposure for the program. If that's the case, it certainly worked.

I think more than that, David Arseneault (the head coach) wanted to get the kid out of a slump... He had opened the season poorly, and what better way to get out of a slump than to shoot 108 times???

unless you miss 90 of them.

dont buy it.  i think the ploy to get on espn is far more likely to be true.
