alright, trying to figure this all out...I am at a D+ prestige D2 school with one scholarship open.  There is a D1 player 40 miles away ranked 42 in his position.  Should I even bother trying or wait until I can figure out how to win first?
its only $10 to send a phone call. I doubt he will be pullable, but its cheap to find out (hell, probably better than 50/50 he refuses the call and you get the answer for free...)

You have less than a zero percent chance of successfully recruiting that kid.  If you were an A++++++ prestige D2 school, you would have a zero percent chance of successfully recruiting that kid.  Move on.

Why even risk wasting the ten bucks?  Look again Dac, he's a D+ prestige D2 school.  And he's talking about a top 50-type player.  He hasn't got a shot in hell of getting that kid.

That's what I was figuring.  Trying to feel out these ranges of availability.  Sounds like even with an A+ prestige you are only talking about players ranked 150 and below and with my awesome D+ prestige I should focus on D2 guys.

Not necessarily, a lot of the unranked DI recruits you see will be DII recruits for higher prestige DII schools, and it makes sense to look on both your DI and DII screens, you can find talent on both. As a D+ school ranked recruits may be beyond your reach, and certainly the #42 anything is likely to be beyond a DII school's reach.

look for mostly unranked and unwanted. role players are fine at D level.

oh... i thought the d+ was at d1. yeah, no shot at that guy with any d2 school. d+ d2, you should still send phone calls to unranked d1 players, you can even try like 200 ranked sfs and sgs, sometimes those you can go all the way up to like 120 with an a+, so maybe a d+ can sometimes hit the very low guys? i dont know, probably not, but you definitely want to be hitting up some of those unranked d1 guys too.

how does that work with international players?  Can you still get D1 internationals at a D2 school?
1/17/2013 3:06 PM
yes you can get internationals (D1) at a D2 school.  works just the same - except you have to wait for them to drop down to you (since pulling them down is impossible on your budget given that international scouting trips are expensive).

I've signed in the 110s before I think, you'll never really know what you can get though unless you throw them a bone and see what's up...you need to know whether they'll drop like eggs in a fallopian tube or not.

Reviving this thread for a question What's usually the magic number of scouting trips to pull down a D1 recruit? I'm at a D2 C+ prestige school

D2 more often takes more than 10.  I think I usually do good with 12-16, but sometimes it can be a lot more.

This is the correct number .. I routinely send 12 (and maybe even 15) if I really want a guy to drop on 'this turn'.  But if it is not needed that quick, I do 10 and then 2 or 4 more if he doesn't drop.  And I have had to do more than 20 for a recruit before.

One thing to remember is that while a guy has you as a backup option, the trips you send do "less effort" than a normal scouting trip would UNTIL he actually drops, then scouting trips will count for their normal effort.  Any EXTRA you do on the turn he drops (ie, if you send 20 and he drops at 12 .. the 8 are EXTRA) will be at the lower, non dropped rate.  So it is good to try to ease into the correct number if you are battling and need cash.

Agree with hughesjr above.

Here's another question that often comes up-"if I'm A prestige (or better) and a D prestige D1 school is *tight* with a kid can I pull him down?"  I've seen multiple people say they've been successful with around 30 STs and 30 HVs.  Last season I was A+ (D2) and tried to overtake a D- (D1) school.  The kid was 50 miles away.  50 STs later he finally started accepting HVs, and 25 HVs later I still wasn't even considered.  Long story short, trying to overtake a D1 sim can be risky.
