Not a big deal, But... Topic

Kinda surprised my prestige went down, given what happened last year as compared to the year before.  I know there's a secret number that we don't see that supersedes the letter grade, however...I'll let you take a look...

Not sure how I dumped to a C+ after a CC, a CT, and an NT, but held onto a B- the year prior with just a CC.

You probably were right on the edge of dropping to a C+ after last season and since your 2nd Round NT run from Season 70 fell further into the past, it bolstered your prestige less causing you to drop.

The high SOS may have played into it a little too.

Yea, I'd be a little surprised, but you were probably a really low B- last time and you are now a very high C+.

I've actually seen quite a few coaches saying the same thing on coaches corner posts recently.  I wonder if they made a change to the prestige formula without announcing it?

i was going to say, this is DEFINITELY not right, but i figured i'd better check division... sure enough, division 1, so it all checks out. prestige in d2/d3 is way different, this is par for the course at a d1 mid major. i think the lack of a drop is more surprising but seble recently made it so the most recent season was worth a lot less in d1.

To the best of my knowledge the only things that effect Prestige are:

wins
draft picks
being ranked
post season appearances
post season success

The only logical explanation I can see is what car_carzy said, that the effect of the season 70 NT victory is now diminished.

I also understand that if you cut players you can impact your prestige as well as reputation. Impact is greater if you cut a player you recruited and slight if you cut  a SIM recruited player.

just to mention, draft picks dont factor into the prestige listed on the page. also, i think your list is pretty accurate in d2/d3, but not d1, not with the most recent change. someone posted this recently, thought it was interesting, i didn't realize how much went into prestige myself (although, i am annoyed final spot on the S curve isn't in there - but maybe most of those factors that make up the S curve are, so it doesn't matter? sure seems it could be simplified though, no reason to weigh those things differently for seeding and for prestige, in my book)

i really don't think the family of reputation-hitting actions (cutting players, bad grades, etc) can affect prestige. the only exception, i believe, was boosters, which have been removed from the game.

Right, I forgot baseline prestige and conference presitge factor in. It's possible that the all sim conference colonels is in dropped in conference prestige.

well, i think what you said was basically on the mark. that nt2 became less important, while adding a NT1 with crap rpi/sos, but good record. that most recent season is a c+ to me. whatever the weights of previous seasons is, its not clear, but the good seasons leading to a season 71 b- are now worth a lot less than they were, while the recent seasons are a c+ type and a c- type of seasons, makes sense that would average to a C+.
7/15/2014 11:52 AM
If you look at the last four seasons (1st-4th most recent), you have:

1st - 17W + 0NT to 25W + 1NT
2nd - 23W + 1NT to 17W + 0NT
3rd - 22W + 2NT to 23W + 1NT
4th - 25W + 1NT to 22W + 2NT

Which goes
1st (+8W +1NT)
2nd (-6W -1NT)
3rd (+1W -1NT)
4th (-3W +1NT)

And somehow, that equation comes out to a negative prestige difference. If the last 4 seasons are equal, it would be the same. But we know they're weighted, but somehow 2nd season and 4th season back combine to be worth more than 1st and 3rd. Something's funky here or there's a factor we don't understand. Is the CT worth something?

Simplest answer is they scaled it differently for this past season (so the score that used to be B- or B now is C+)

Lol, trev, how did you get a player named "Frank Frank"?
