I rarely have issues with deciding on a starting lineup, and often have too much pride to ask others for help....but I'm struggling to put together a starting lineup for my Kent St. Team in D1 Naismith. I would really appreciate if some of the more experienced D1 coaches could offer their 2 cents.

The only things that I am sure of....Leland is my starting Center, and Gilliland and Meadow are starting somewhere.
My biggest dilemma is Point Guard. Gilliland can start there, but he's a much more natural SG. Meadow is too slow. Harris might be the best choice, but we might have to take some lumps due to his youth + defense.

Also not sure to do with Burke. Backup SF maybe? He's pretty good, but such a tweener.

So far, I'm thinking (but very open to suggestions)
PG Fredrick (should have 1 more season as a 5 yr senior) or Harris
SG Gilliland
SF Meadow
PF Cushman
C - Leland

Thanks in advance!

I think Meadow could work there, and that he's 5 pts slower than Frederick certainly isn't ideal, but it should be more than compensated by his 8 pts better DEF, 20 pts better BH, and 9 pts better in Passing vs. Frederick..  I think Harris is just too young to be counted on this season, but he's serviceable at PG3.  And Meadow's 91 ST means he could stay on the court a long time (and keep Harris off most of the time) running the offense.

I'd try:

PG:  Meadow, Frederick, Harris, McBrown
SG:  Gilliland, Frederick, McBrown, Harris
SF:  Burke, McBrown, Collins, Harris
PF:  Cushman, Chaves, Leathers, English
C:  Leland, Chaves, Leathers, English

It would be nice of course if Burke had better ATH/SP, but he could definitely contribute on offense at least so it's worth trying to start him.  I don't know the Naismith D1 landscape at all really, but it's not like you'll be facing 90/90 guys at the 1-3 spots every game, so I think you can cut corners where it makes sense.  Having your seniors play the most minutes on this team will be the most important thing imo.  This lineup does that.

thanks. i like the idea of meadow at pg for now

What are Harris' IQs, and how much potential does he have?  I ask because if it's at all decent, he's close enough to the other guys to be worth starting in spite of being a freshman.  Obviously the rest of the lineup depends on who starts at the 1, so I won't share my other thoughts until I know about this.

also relevant whether the goal is to win now or develop players - whats the team posture in that way - are W's the goal?

I want to win enough to keep our prestige at at least a B-, because the next recruiting class will be pretty huge, with 5 open spots (Fredrick will have a 5th year senior season). So starting Harris might not be the best, at least not until next season. I think we can get into the NT(probably early exit), or more likely the PIT, with this squad.

Start the FR. I want to beat you, haha. I do think Meadow might be the way to go, but also once Harris' IQ gets better towards the end of the year, you could move him up the depth chart.

I also usually play guys like Cushman (bad BH/Pas) at C rather than PF, but maybe that's not helping me like I thought. Since Leland is the better player, you could also think about switching the two based on matchups.

i'm 2-0 with jdno's recommendations, so I'm happy to stick with them! And thanks Ek, I'll probably swap Cushman between PF and C due to matchups.
