thanks to everyone who responded.   I had no idea post season could be so much money.    I also didn't know I could purchase next years' FSS with my leftover money.     I have a better understanding now.   thanks again to all -
Just to be clear -- you can buy the next year's FSS *after* recruiting has closed and the exhibition games have started. Don't do like I did one year and get impatient and jump the gun before the new crop of recruits gets generated.

To be more clear, there is absolutely zero monetary benefit to scouting early with rollover cash. The only factor being brought up is that the coach could have had carryover in addition to the ridiculous amount of bonus cash the UAA brings in every season.

well Nick that brings up another question.   I have found a number of usefull posts and such to read through.   Is there anywhere anyone has  tried to quantify the comparitive value (effectiveness, not cost) or the different types of recruiting?   is there a thread or a chat that addresses this?
There have been threads although it has been years since I've seen one. The consensus is that a CV is 2.X times the effort of an HV. The X is where the debate comes in.

I've never seen much utility in knowing exactly what the value of each is in terms of moving the needle on a recruit's interest. The only thing we can do with effective value is speculate. But knowing the cost differences can really inform that speculation.

At recruit distance 20 miles - A Campus visit costs about 2.65 times a home visit cost.
40 - 2.62
60 - 2.59
80 - 2.57
100 - 2.53
120 - 2.52
140 - 2.49
160 - 2.47
180 - 2.45

The most important thing to know about the differences between CV and HV from a practical standpoint is where the distance discrepancy causes big changes in cost. As you can see, the big change in the CV vs HV cost comes between 360 and 370 miles. So above that point, it makes more sense to do campus visits rather than home visits. There is also a large price increase per visit at around 1400 miles, but the cost ratio between the types of visits stays about the same. Likewise, there is a price increase at around 180 miles, but the ratio is still in line above and below that point.

In fact, scouting early with rollover cash can hurt you in some situations.  If you have a couple thousand bucks lying around, you might just scout New York because it looks fertile and you can afford it, but you'll likely pay full price.  On the other hand, if you wait until the season rolls over, you might buy it at a discounted price as part of a larger package of states.

Either way, you've scouted New York.  In the first scenario, you've had the recruits' info for a longer time.  In the second, you've paid less for it.  I'd rather pay less.

you get the discount on multiple states even if you buy them one at a time. it's factored in the price.

this is not true, generally speaking. if you have ALREADY bought enough states to hit teh discount, and you buy one additional state, that state is discounted. but if you buy 8 states, 1 at a time, you are not getting any discount on the first, and are only getting the discount level at the rest when you hit the respective thresholds. only the 8th state would receive the full 20% discount.

Right, you don't get a rebate on states you've already bought.
