This might be a dumb question but does 20k in scouting trips equal 20k in campus visits?

Well even if they were worth the same amount of 'effort' it would still depend on how far away the player is because there's different prices.
Someone worked up a chart in a post called, "Getting recruits to consider you," I don't know how accurate it is but it gives a good visual of the differences in effort and such, may help.

If you get a walk-on one recruiting season, are they only with you for one season or do they stay the entire 4 years?

they will just be with you for the one season, unless you offer them a scholarship.
