Strong Defense? Topic

Does anyone know if it is even possible to get to "Very Good" on the Strong Defense preference? Right now in Smith world at DI my team is the #1 defense in terms of points allowed per game and fg% defense, which should be pretty strong in factoring into such a preference.

Somehow I am only listed as "Good" for that preference. So is it even possible to get to "Very Good"? Seems to me that at the very least the top 5-10 defensive teams at each division should be listed as such.

Interesting development. I was listed as Good with recruits on defense but I had a couple of games where i gave up 70 and 80 points and my Good changed to Neutral.. So it's a fluid characteristic apparently.

It's definitely fluid...just doesn't seem like you can even get to "Very Good." FWIW, I definitely had "Very Good" for this during the beta with a D that wasn't as good as this team currently, but have yet to achieve it with any of my teams since 3.0 rolled out and usually have strong defensive teams. Maybe they tweaked something to make it tougher to get there, but it sure seems near impossible to get "Very High" on Strong D pref now.

It is possible to be "very good" for strong defense. 3 of my teams are good and 1 is very good. The other hasn't started yet. I haven't looked in depth at my teams to see a difference between them though.

All my teams are pretty similar, but there is a little difference between them. I think your UCLA team should be very good though. Their numbers are spectacular. I would like to know what separates them.

Skinz - It's Points Per Possession. Looks like your points per 100 possessions is 86.0

Looking at qb4usf's teams I get
82.6 - Texas, Tyler
82.9 - Linfield
77.6 - castleton

So likely the Castleton is the one with Very good preference. Maybe the cutoff point is 80.0. Not sure exactly.

How does one calculate Points per Possession?

You can use .44 or .475. I've seen both.

hmmm, interesting info benis. thanks for that I didn't know how that could be calculated but cool to know. Seems that would make sense...still, they have made it extremely tough to get a "Very Good" on that one.

especially if that is really what they are using to determine the preference lol

Is there an easy way you calculated this? I run slowdown ball with my Texas A&M team, and need to get my PPP back down.

It's pretty easy.

points/((FGA-OR) + TO + (.475* FTA))= points per possession

So for your Texas A&M team, the defensive points per possession is-

760/(729-136) + 222 + (.475 * 249) = 0.814.

Multiply by 100 to get per 100 possessions = 81.4

Make a formula in excel and then basically copy and paste.

Here's the response I got from support: "keep in mind that it's a range so even though you're not quite at it you're very likely close and still getting more credit than other Goods. Points per game allowed is a big factor but there are a couple other things such as rebounds, turnovers, etc."

Doesn't really tell us much and also doesn't tell us that points per possession is what is used for it. Pretty much the response I expected to get back but one can always hope.
