Evaluations: From a perpetually losing owner.
24) jethroeg - Walt Bellamy, Julius Erving, Sleepy Floyd, Reggie Miller, Roy Hinson, T. Robinson, V. Flemming
- Walt Bellamy isn't worth a first round selection, but there is no knocking the choice. It is hard to select in the twenty-four spot because of the lengthy delay until that third round choice. Now it is tougher to guess which season you'll select for him, but the glaring weakness in almost all of his seasons available, is a sub sixty-five defense. I feel that if you're going to select a player who won't be a cornerstone defensively then it is best to select someone who brings it all and depending on which season you do select, will there be an area of bigger weakness like fouls and turnovers? Dr. J goes in a good spot and Sleepy Floyd in the third was a stretch, but still with the length between picks four and five it is forgivable. I think Erving really should have been the shooting guard, just think about how awesome this team could have been with a heavy boarder at a guard position. Reggie Miller is going to be relied on for at least seventy percent of the teams three point offense, you've got awesome free-throws, too many turnovers and fouls. Luckily you won't have any issues with minutes and again, I don't know which seasons you'll use, but I am not liking the defense beyond Erving, Hinson has one year of solid defense as does Truck Robinson, but the rest is a recipe for disaster.
Record Prediction: 32-50
23) xxevilivexx - John Stockton, Tim Duncan, Serge Ibaka, Brandon Rush, Jameer Nelson, Mike Green, Steve Novak
- In the last ODL I will gladly admit that my team strategy was to shoot lots of three's, have fun reading the stat lines and I didn't expect to win as many as I did, but I was hopeful in building the team. I always feel that I have glaring weaknesses in the forty-seven million dollar league. Defense is a crutch as is a balance between players. I start a team with rebounding, it never sways, I try a team with bombers, I stick to bombers. So for the sake of actually making it balanced I drafted the best available Point Guard and paired him with a guy that routinely falls to the borderline of rounds one and two. I know that after my Duncan selection I did wait almost three days and when it came time to draft again I had no idea what direction to go in. I find that it is tough to construct a team waiting that many picks, but I like what Ibaka brings at the small forward spot, it is a rarity to find a low/mid usage player with limited downsides and a defense between 95-100. Seeing as how Larry Nance was taken, I swooped in for Serge, he would have been taken in round four by someone I assume. Brandon Rush might have been a stretch, I like what he brings, but I should have possibly taken more offense. I left myself needing a Center with scoring and had limited wiggle room. Has anyone ever used Mike Green? I like what he brings to my team, I didn't have to settle for a sub sixty defender, it gives me another guy who blocks, can steal and be efficient. I do have minutes to fill, I should reach the target and I won't add those pieces until the draft concludes. If my team stays healthy, because we all know I suck at that stuff, things will be different.
Record Prediction: Without minutes problems 45-37, With minutes problems 38-44
