Should be an interesting squad, evil. Crazy good offensive efficiency, great offensive rebounding in the starting lineup, great defense, but still plenty of holes to fill. You still need plenty of minutes, and you have money, but trying to find good, undrafted players will be tricky. Hard to judge this team without seeing the rest of it.

Evaluations: From a perpetually losing owner.

24) jethroeg - Walt Bellamy, Julius Erving, Sleepy Floyd, Reggie Miller, Roy Hinson, T. Robinson, V. Flemming

- Walt Bellamy isn't worth a first round selection, but there is no knocking the choice. It is hard to select in the twenty-four spot because of the lengthy delay until that third round choice. Now it is tougher to guess which season you'll select for him, but the glaring weakness in almost all of his seasons available, is a sub sixty-five defense. I feel that if you're going to select a player who won't be a cornerstone defensively then it is best to select someone who brings it all and depending on which season you do select, will there be an area of bigger weakness like fouls and turnovers? Dr. J goes in a good spot and Sleepy Floyd in the third was a stretch, but still with the length between picks four and five it is forgivable. I think Erving really should have been the shooting guard, just think about how awesome this team could have been with a heavy boarder at a guard position. Reggie Miller is going to be relied on for at least seventy percent of the teams three point offense, you've got awesome free-throws, too many turnovers and fouls. Luckily you won't have any issues with minutes and again, I don't know which seasons you'll use, but I am not liking the defense beyond Erving, Hinson has one year of solid defense as does Truck Robinson, but the rest is a recipe for disaster.

Record Prediction: 32-50

23) xxevilivexx - John Stockton, Tim Duncan, Serge Ibaka, Brandon Rush, Jameer Nelson, Mike Green, Steve Novak

- In the last ODL I will gladly admit that my team strategy was to shoot lots of three's, have fun reading the stat lines and I didn't expect to win as many as I did, but I was hopeful in building the team. I always feel that I have glaring weaknesses in the forty-seven million dollar league. Defense is a crutch as is a balance between players. I start a team with rebounding, it never sways, I try a team with bombers, I stick to bombers. So for the sake of actually making it balanced I drafted the best available Point Guard and paired him with a guy that routinely falls to the borderline of rounds one and two. I know that after my Duncan selection I did wait almost three days and when it came time to draft again I had no idea what direction to go in. I find that it is tough to construct a team waiting that many picks, but I like what Ibaka brings at the small forward spot, it is a rarity to find a low/mid usage player with limited downsides and a defense between 95-100. Seeing as how Larry Nance was taken, I swooped in for Serge, he would have been taken in round four by someone I assume. Brandon Rush might have been a stretch, I like what he brings, but I should have possibly taken more offense. I left myself needing a Center with scoring and had limited wiggle room. Has anyone ever used Mike Green? I like what he brings to my team, I didn't have to settle for a sub sixty defender, it gives me another guy who blocks, can steal and be efficient. I do have minutes to fill, I should reach the target and I won't add those pieces until the draft concludes. If my team stays healthy, because we all know I suck at that stuff, things will be different.

Record Prediction: Without minutes problems 45-37, With minutes problems 38-44

PG: 69-70 West 20 min / 90D ; 93-94 McMillan 24 min / 95D
SG: 10-11 Granger 30 min / 74D; 18 min of West; 6-point usage guy on court at all times
SF: 91-92 Nance 38 min / 100D; 10-11 Wallace 10min / 70D
PF: 67-68 Lucas 48min / 47D
C: 70-71 Boerwinkle 30min / 62D; 18min of 50D+ scrap heap players

About 450 threes, a little light on efg but close to 52%, 80%+ ft% at around 2400, total to's around 1200 or a little less.

Light on the boards at the 1-3 spots but Lucas and Boewrinkle give balance, Boe's ast% is like a bonus PG for 30min a game.

Only weak defender is Lucas but he will be only sub-50 on the court and will almost always have a 90-95D at PG.

How many games will West and Granger shoot me out of is my burning question.

Evil I almost took Serge over Wallace and in hindsight I should have, that was a great pick.

surprised by your season selections, nate, but it still looks like a well-balanced squad.

Been playing around a lot with the tradeoffs, would love at least $2mill in more cap space. I hate that the 44min Lucas gets killed on D, but taking the .5 usage McMillan limits some of my options to assure no exposure to the team penalty. Since we likely have 4-5 days before we can fill our squads I may tinker a little more. Thanks for the feedback.

GL nate. I don't like the usage for the most part as just 2 players will be doing most of the scoring from the guard spots, and for about 28 minutes a game only one of those guys is on the court. In other words for about 28 minutes per game you have one good scoring option at about 52% EFG or less. BTW those scrap heap players that back up Boerwinkle will spell disaster for the team. I see where the Granger / West SG pairing is a great idea though. The overall team defense is scary and the team will be a pain in the butt to play against on the road.

Once again peer pressure has made me re-think and alter my plan:

PG: 95 McMillan 16m / 89D; 32m of low usage 50+D 50+ efg scrap heap players (maybe 3-4m of West)
SG: same West 36-40m; same Granger 8-12m
SF: same Granger 18-24 min; 05 Wallace 24m / 100D; up to 6m of 88 Nance
PF: Nance 28m / 100D, 68 Lucas 20m / 50D
C: Lucas 18m; same Boe 30m

Scrap heap minutes shifted to PG, all meaningful minutes at the 4-5 split by Nance, Lucas, and Boe.
100 D Wallace for 1/2 a game at SF.

Vance after spending hours looking at this I see how you are correct, scrub 4-5 players can really hurt, but I think the team can better absorb those minutes at PG with stiffs that don't hurt you much and either pass the ball or stay out of the way. Advice from tar helped here as well.

I tell you what nate. . .  I actually like your style. Here's another idea for you. Why don't you use the 23 mpg version of West to back up Granger at SG? That will leave you more cash to balance out the roster. I agree that the PG stiffs hurt less because they aren't counted on for rebounding and they don't seem to foul nearly as much as the PF and C stiffs do.

My final picks were Jamaal Tinsley and Ricky Pierce. To me Tinsley is a natural back up to Calderon and almost a perfect fit. The 82 defense for 17 mpg is helpful. I struggled with figuring out a good backup for Manu at the $47 million cap. Ricky Pierce has 2 good offensive seasons at just over 30% and 31% usage at 16 mpg and 21 mpg respectively. I like having similar usage levels for each backup position to the starters because I don't trust the SIM to make the correct substitutions during the games to maximize the efficiency of the team. I get it that Pierce has terrible defense but at just 16 to 21 mpg per game I'll take it because of the offense.

Yea its the 74D over 27.2 usgage Granger, typed the year in wrong before. That's the only Granger I can use because I have to have his 6-point usage.

I've never made a team like this one. Should be strong offensively at the very least. I like the Amare/Artis combo in the post. Gives me 10 usage points of guys scoring 58% or better. Amare FT shooting should make up for Artis's. Hopefully with the game on the line Amare is shooting the ball. Marion and Barros round out the offensive juggernaut. The line-up I got in right now has just over 500 3s, so we can make people pay for adjusting defense inside who want to slow down Amare and Artis. Charlie Ward gives me a defender in the backcourt with assists and a couple of 3s.
Rebounding wise, this may be one of the weakest teams I've made because I usually stack up on boards. Artis is going to be my only guy getting offensive boards, which I don't like. At least he plays over 40 minutes and has high usage, leading to tip ins. My defensive is ok, 3 guys with defense above 80 (Gilmore, Marion, and Ward). I like having more defense in the post in particular.
We will be as good as long as our offense jells.
