NC, I like your defensive stratagy. Ibaka will cover Barkley's weak defense. JaVale's def 69...eh, with Naoh it should be ok. Your back court will hold down perimeter shooters. With the 89 Dumars you would control the back court completely. As is, Ibaka, Dumars & Billup should mess with your opponents ast, especially when set to a +1 or +2 def bal. I'm just wondering if you have the front court presence to back your defense out that far. We'll see..I like the team. GL

tar, would you have taken Melo if I took Faried? I assumed there was little chance you'd leave Faried for me, but I rolled the dice and lost. I figured Melo was the perfect backup for Ray and a good one for Kobe. My tradeoff was better D from C Anderson and Pinckney, lower usage, lower boards, and lower efg.

In the PPL Faried was 278/470, that's 59.1% (+0.5% efg from RL) and had 96 more shots than RL (exactly 25% more shots than RL) (on a team where he was my 8th highest usage guy). He also had only 7 fewer orb's than RL. While the 86-87 Worm with a little higher usage% (18.9 to 18.8) had only 12 more shots than RL and had an efg% of 52.6% in the sim compared to RL of 54.5% (a 1.9% drop). (Also had all of 8 more orb's than RL).

Is Faried just another one of those guys like Lucas that does better in the sim? I know, I know, it comes back to the makeup of the teams, but the differences for Faried and the Worm in the PPL are perplexing.

natenoy, use FGA+(0.44*FTA)+TO when comparing real life to sim possessions.  It's about a 14% increase for Faried.

nc, what's the validity of using fta's? In the PPL my RL fta/48 was 33.48, but the sim gave me 26.42 fta/48 , that's a 21.1% decrease from RL (and that's without weighing the RL average which would be higher since Wade and my other better players got most of thier RL minutes). Wade himself had 564 in the sim v. 803 RL (a 29.76% drop) but did have 151 more fga's (a 10.69% bump).

Non weighted FGA/p48 was 92.27pg, sim result was 96.00pg (4.1% bump) and to's went from 16.66 RL to 19.62 in the sim (17.66% increase).

FGA+(.44*FTA)+TO was 123.68 RL (again non weighted though) compared to 127.25 sim (2.89% increase, but would be lower if I weighed RL numbers).

In general fta's are 20-25% lower than RL correct? But there is variation based on fouls for the other teams etc. We have fewer foul machines than in RL so I can see why we would have a drop in the sim, also we have a higher number of guys that took high %'s of thier team's RL fta's (we don't have the guys that committed fouls nor the guys that never got to the line in RL) so our totals are lower. So if our teams have guys that add up to something like 150% of thier team's RL fta's something has to give, especially when there are fewer fouls being committed than in RL.

I might be missing something here but it would have been nice to have a private league # to help construct a $47 M cap team. Is there some reason this cannot be done?
3/26/2013 7:13 AM
tad, just do what I do while you are waiting: select start new theme league and set the cap to $47 mill. When our league # is posted just back out of the league (select private and no one else can even see it for a week or so.)

I wasn't planning on taking Melo either way - I have used him often as a backup for high-usage 2s/3s but am going a cheaper route this time to save $$

Tad, I just load them into my "exhibition team" roster.

Ash is right offense wins games. Ash is correct, it's a possessions battle. So, how does defense create offense? This is how I see it...defense suppresses your opponents FG%, this creates rbs. Solid drbs% turns the drbs into possessions. Combine that with solid ast% and you bump your FG%, this drives up your points production. So this is how I see defense creating offense.
