Except for 1 team in each region, this tournament is chalk. Go underdogs 10-West Georgia, 7-UM-Duluth, 8-Harding, and 12-UN-Omaha.

How the hell is Goldey-Beacom a 4-seed?

As Goldey's 1st round victim, I whole-heartedly agree.

CVAC got a little bit too much of a boost because of the # of good teams in the conference.  The top teams there are obviously great, but no better than the top 3 in several other conferences...it's just that their middle and bottom tier are better than the rest of us have in our conferences.  Unfortunately that depth ended up with them having some 6, 8, 10 loss teams higher in the projection report than some better teams in other conferences that had to beat a couple of 200+ RPI sims.

Not looking forward to a rematch with hillsdale. He beat me in overtime in non conference.

I'm guessing conference depth is how I wound up with a 1-seed with 6 losses. The Heartland conference has become very tough and it is getting stronger. We got 7 teams in the NT this season and while I'm the only one lucky enough to still be standing it says a lot about our conference that we got 7 in.

And several other teams are heading in the right direction, with the old Pfeiffer coach, detfirecat, at Lincoln.

A strong field for the Elite Eight

#4 seed New Jersey Tech vs. #3 Bowie St.
#1 U. of Sciences vs. #7 Minnesota-Duluth
#4 Goldey-Beacom vs. #3 Bellarmine
#1 St. Mary's vs. #3 CSU-Stansilus

New Jersey Tech won the '54 tournament;  Bowie won in '52 and '55;  U. of Sciences was the winner in '05, Goldey-Beacom won in '46; Bellarmine took the crown in '28 and '42.

CSU-Stanislus had never won a NT game until season '57 but now has back-to-back Elite Eights in seasons '58 and '59

I am not sure if shooting 45/31/78 is a player of the year. Frazier had higher counting stats, but his rate stats are worse than Wood's. I was a little surprised to see Wood get POY, but he is no way robbed Frazier.

if you want to argue about "rates"...then we must also take into account Frazier's 91 defense compared to Wood's 50 and the significant ath difference that magnifies the defensive discrepency even more, along with the fact that Frazier played the 26th toughest schedule in the country as opposed to Wood's 56th toughest.

there's a lot more that should go into it than whether or not he shoots 45% for the season and your guy shoots 50%.

they're both great players but at the end of the day one led his team to a 2 loss regular season and a top 5 RPI and one lead his team to a 6 loss regular season and a top 35 RPI

I never denied the team success aspect.

As for the defensive value, who knows how much value that holds? Maybe there is something out there I haven't seen that lays this out, but it's hard to say how much better Frazier was on defense.

He said Frazier got robbed cause he had more points, assists etc. While this is true, he did it much more inefficiently. This must have been what gave Wood the nod, over Frazier's team success and likely better defense.

Although Stanislaus' coach got a NT in season 50. ;)

For anyone who might be interested, the coach at Valdosta St has said he isn't coming back. That is likely to be the only open job in the Heartland conference. Someone should take that one.

I should probably update the thread title.

I think Turnipseed should have got POY over your two guards, just sayin...
