I'm really frustrated at the engine for the first time since I started playing the game. When others have complained about the engine I've always tried to find the fix to the problem within me, and until now I've always found a tweek here or there that has fixed what ever my problems been. In other words the problem was me, not the engine. This time I can't seem to find what I'm doing wrong, if anything.

Here is my issue. My DL are making way too many plays down field on passing plays. I get a DL will make tackles on short passes to RB's, but how do they make a play on a med. pass to a WR 22 yds. down field? And how does a DL end up on a RB on a 10 yd. touchdown pass? He didn't make the tackle, it was a TD, so was he covering the RB on a pass play? And I've also seen DL on a RB or TE on inc. passes mare than I ever have. Again, is the DL covering the TE or RB on passing plays?

I'm sure losing 2 of my first 3 games and being behind at the half of my 4th game is part of my frustration (LOL), but I'm still looking for the answer. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

You arent doing anything wrong man, its the engine. Jconte was essentially fired for the update. Please for the love of god stop trying to explain yourself for something that is inherently utterly a ginormious pile of dog shite

Now, I will concede that my team is all Sophomore starters, but there's not a player on this winless SimAI team that I would have replaced one of my starters with.  He was grossly out-classed and had 4 turnovers to my 0, yet it took a missed XP in OT for us to pull out the win.....at home.....as 27.5-point favorites!

  Ordinarily, I put up with an occasional upset to an inferior team that would never had happened in the old engine . But this one came to a decent team in the first round of the playoffs. My problem is my team was far superior and a definite NC contender. Things I had done to other top contenders in regular season that worked well just wouldn't work. 
              Like I said, in regular season I wouldn't give a sh_t cause my team was good enuff to easily still make the playoffs.But in first round of playoffs to get knocked out of the chase for the brass ring  Ticks Me Off no end !

Just curious here.  On the defensive setting did you have Always Pass, Heavy Pass, or Pass set in combination with, very cons, or conservative?  And if the answer was yes to that and the DLs making the play were DEs, then I would think the engine is working as intended.  I suppose that even Bal/bal would come up with a combination like that.  Not syaing it is right but DEs do drop into coverage at times, note the INTs by DLs.  Usually in the flats but I suppose if a RB extends it out it could be more down field.  Also the game does not have provisions for broken plays so maybe it was a throw back.  Again I think the engine has been broken all along but since you try hard to rationalize it I thought I might give a reasonable explanation.

No, i considered that too but I never use any of those combos on defense. I won't go into detail but I play a pretty aggressive defense, which SHOULD mean my lineman are in pass rush mode...

In aggressive mode the DBs and LBs could be blitzing and the DEs dropping back in short coverage.  Just playing Devils advocate here.  Some Pro teams do that.

...except when they're in a zone blitz.

This is something I'll have to really dig into the engine more to see what is going on.  Pass coverage is something I will be working on in the update, trying to make it more consistent and reasonable.  I appreciate you guys realizing that I'm inheriting the engine and its problems, but I don't want to make that an excuse.  I actually did work on the engine some, but pretty much just the structure of it.  So I am familiar with how the engine works, but the logic to actually simulate the plays is where I think there are issues and the part I didn't work on.  The play calling logic for end of half and game, I think, is just a matter of more testing and tweaking.  In updating the guys of the play simulations, I will most certainly need to rework how the players cover the field.  We've been pretty much focusing on the offensive changes to plays, but I'm at the point where I need to start looking at defense.  I will probably start a thread about this in the upcoming weeks.
