After this recent event with the mcbethbr/nelsonba25 account, I also vaguely recall a forum thread way back when discussing the nelsonba25 account landing some stud DIA RB in the heart of the northeast region (which at the time was packed with active DIA schools) while he had a DIAA program. If my memory serves, some other accounts at a DIA school, or schools, were on the recruit but, oddly, decided not to sign him and the recruit magically fell to the nelsonba25 account at DIAA. My recollection is that people were perplexed about how this happened. I'm NOW thinking that maybe the digital DIA stud recruit was mad at someone and wanted to spite him or her by signing with nelsonba25's DIAA school. The nelsonba25 account shouldn't have accepted the recruit and it was wrong but he apologized....and kept the recruit for the next four years.
I will attempt to post back on topic.
I had a very similar experience as yours potter only without the site mails. I was locked up with another coach, I unfortunately don't remember the name, but maybe with some research I can try and figure it out, but we were deep in a battle over a STL player and it was a couple days after signings and I was winning. Along comes nelson with an elite and dumps a ton of money into the guy and takes him away. Kinda fishy at the time because as you had pointed out nelson could of had that guy at anytime but decides two days after signings to jump into a battle that had over 60k in it. I know from personal experience that if I jump into a two man battle and I drop 10, 15, 20k into it and don't even show up that there is a lot of money being spent, a real battle is going on, and I could end up dropping my whole budget and not even get in on the recruit, so I back out and finish my class with a guarantee. So for an elite coach to first of all not have his class together or at least involved in battles prior to signings raised a flag for me. And second to jump blindly* into an ongoing battle with over 60k spent and to keep spending that confidently raised another flag.
Second nelson story.
When I first started playing again I was reading the forums and saw a many a thread with nelson talking about all the STL players he has on his teams and all the scouting he does and all his nutthuggers in awe of him. Well I've played a game or two and I know that especially at the lower levels you simply don't have enough money to scout as many players as he was and still have enough money to go out and battle for those players, and with carry over gone? Something wasn't adding up.
Nelson's game plans are nothing new. Coaches have been running the ball down peoples throats forever. What is different is the amount of STL and high potential players that make his teams. This can only be accomplished by scouting a lot of players at a high cost. A cost he seems to be able to afford.
There are my two stories. Nutthuggers you may now attack.
