Hip-hop is only a "stage" if you listen without a discerning palate. If your "Best of" list is comprised solely of current and/or former Top 10 radio hits, for instance. Which is not the same as saying anything that gets radio play is of questionable quality.

Rap was certainly a stage for me, though it still kind of carries over, and most of the rap I listen to now is from the early days of rap. Mostly the 90s but some stuff from the 80s, so it isn't really that. But anyhow, buckeye, you hit a ton of my favorite artists, and jibe, I love Bullet With Butterfly Wings. That song and Tonight, Tonight kind of go back and forth as my favorite songs by Smashing Pumpkins, but I love the kind of over the top ambitious style that they use in a ballad setting in Tonight, Tonight, so that's why I went that way. Also, I love Rascal Flatts and they're one of my favorite current country artists... can't believe I forgot to mention their song These Days, which is my absolute favorite by them. Also, love that Azar song. That was one of the songs I kind of grew up listining to. Also, mojolad, I absloutely love Tchakovsky and that particular symphony of his is absolutely epic.

OH! If we talk country, we gotta talk Zac Brown Band. Only country I even like a little, and I LOVE them. "Free," "Toes" and "Chicken Fried" are great songs, and their lesser known ones are just as good.
