In my 59 seasons I have only seen 2 and got 2. One was a LB that turned out to be a bust and the other was a TE that was worth his weight in gold.

I am reviewing whether there is some strategy to try to recruit STL (sky's the limit) players such as fishing for them with lots of cheap recruiting.  But it sounds as if they are so rare that you can't really count on that.  I have seen I think 4 at division II and none at any other division.  [I don't play any DIA yet.]

Any thoughts on STL recruiting?

I see them every three or four seasons. No specific difference in recruiting them. I have gotten them relatively cheaply unless you have to battle. I think that in some cases they are only visible to a few teams at a time, and not visible to everyone.

My first two seasons I saw one each season.  Only saw one more in the last 7 seasons.

The ones I see are always very mid level current ratings.  Nothing special but not heinous and always close to me (<75 miles).  I've signed 2 WR STL's (well, one was an "amazing upside") and I missed out on one OL - still bummed.  

Great thread. When I played back in the day I had multiple teams in multiple worlds and never saw STL recruits. It was easily well over 100 seasons and never got one. That was GD 1.0. I skipped out on 2.0 and now 4 years later back.

I've found 2 already in 4 recruiting cycles. I've also noticed potentials are generally higher across the board.

My guess is that the number of STLs are the same.  But there are so few coaches now that there's far less competition to find them.

I've still never seen one. But I did see a Bigfoot 30 years ago.

I signed one this past season. I'm in my 4th season.

Signed 2 in 4 seasons. I'm curious to see how often they show up and if there's a bias towards certain parts of the country. 

I've seen probably 8 of em total and landed 4 of those.   3 of those 4 were LB's and one was an OL.

I've seen 3 in 45 seasons. Got all 3 of them. 1 DL, 1 OL and just picked up a RB in heisman.

Signed 2 RB STL in SAME class at Kent State in Stagg in season 57 or 58.....never saw another until this season at BC when I scouted 2 of them.....able to sign one, a WR.

Im playing this game long time and I haven't seen one in many a season until a recent d2 recruiting.  They've been rare as hen's teeth for me.

I have two on my 4 teams. Usually have one on my DII and DIII teams, sometimes two at a time on the roster.
