I'm thinking of moving a LB to RB and I was wondering if these are even remotely respectable stats for a RB in the new engine:

45 ATH
36 SPD
53 STR
62 ELU
17 H
18 GI
21 TECH

His WE would drop from 31 to 25.  He also has 52 STA.

Would you guys keep him as a back-up linebacker (original stats just click here) or would you even think about moving him to RB?

I'd try him at RB. His Hands are low, but after a couple seasons should be okay.

He'd be an awesome short yardage back for a season or 2, then should be a good overall back.

36 speed would be close to the slowest RB in DIII....

I don't think hands matter much, if at all, for rbs right now.  They should though!

Work ethic is huge in D3 I'd cut him lol... The guy is terrible at 31 work ethic at 26 he'd be atrocious. But if you can use him at LB why not move him??

If you can I would redshirt him ; let some of the bad stats grow.  Starting WE is highly over rated.  I found a stud rb with a we of mid 20's.  I  did what Im advising.  He is Posey on my Mississippi team. He will be a beast.   In his first active year I started him as the blocking back. Next year he will be the #1 back. If you start them , WE will grow as will their already strong stats.

Despite his lack of speed he managed a 54 yard rush for a touchdown in this game.

I looked at the game. You have to start him to have his numbers , especially WE to grow.

very interesting how well he did in that game...

I feel you are over-valuing SPD, noah.

Granted, he should've redshirted him and gave him time to increase his SPD and HND, he will still be a good RB.

I might redshirt him next season. Was just a little too curious about how he'd perform and didn't have a deep/talented backfield this season. How frequently, if ever, do sophomores accept redshirts in GD?

not well in my experience...

And while I may overvalue speed, I guess I just don't see the other ratings as enough to overcome it.

Did you use a lot of inside runs?

I don't have a lot of data and I try to run a pretty balanced number of inside/outside runs, but from the game I posted here, and from our most recent, ongoing game, Smith actually appears to have more success on outside runs.  The 54-yard touchdown was an outside run and his 11-yard run in this morning's first half also came on an outside run (albeit against a godawful team that let my walk-on receiver with 19 speed manage a 13 yard reception).

David Smith just ran for a 61-yard TD against a decent opponent.  His speed really isn't much of a hindrance.
