Have to admit the "use a Yankee from your yr" idea makes sense to me

what if we have 3-4 teams from the same season? Could potentially see 3-4 '78 Ron Guidry's in this senario.

I know, it would just seem strange having Jeter playing for the BoSox in 2003. What do you think busterglen ? If it's ok with you it must be good.

True. At least using your own franchise as your free agent pool you can only get that player for that year.

IF.........and I say IF we choose to use a free agent, why dont we give each owner a choice?, a Yankee from the current year or a player from your own franchise. But we would have to put a *one time* tag on our own FA - no using the 68 Luis Tiant every year.

I agree with the "one time" tag but you would'nt want to take Tiant off that 68 Tribe team. That was the best team the Indians had in the 60's 70's and 80's.

I smailed the idea that we might consider the following:  "No two consecutively-selected teams' winning percentages may exceed a total of 1.100."  This would work for most franchises for a good, long time.  And would keep owners from burning the best 5 seasons and bailing.

Like it, crusty!

Rejay...the Bosox would always welcome Jeter or any Yankee that might give them a bit of an edge.  Might help soften that whole Ruth debacle.

another good idea...........but it will probably cause more bookkeeping for our commish. Plus, if half the league uses their good team the first year and the other half uses a bad team(saving a good team for year 2) then half the teams are playing year 1  without a chance.........and the same for year 2.
If we use a sub .500 team every 3rd year, then everyone has a chance, since all 24 owners will be using a sub .500 team

I'd volunteer to keep the books on this stat . . . and I think most owners would feel good about fielding a .550 team most years.  Of course, if you wanted to field a .630 team one season, you'd have to put no better than a .470 team on the field in surrounding seasons.  And the disparity between sub-.500 teams can be just as great as the disparity between "good" teams, at least in terms of winning percentage.

I agree with JAMESA , think playing a season with 4 Guidry's and 6 Reggie Jacksons would take away from the franchise concept of our draft.

Have a second to check in. Would def have any yankees be exclusive for teams if from same season.

I am in favor of using the original concept proposed by dn and is why I signed up and  chose the Red Sox in the first place.   Yankee free agent use doesn't matter either way.  Could use sub .500 year every 3rd year if everyone wants.  Sox only have 5 of them since '67, though.  I would prefer to bring your best every year or randomly pick a year from a block of six or so of your choosing.  I sort of like the random idea.  Then you don't even get to pick the precise season.  All these other restrictions are just over complicating a simple and fun concept.

It's doubtful the league will last more than 10 seasons realistically.   Most teams have at least that many seasons above say .550 in the past 35.
