Need 1 for New 1901/1941 Separate Draft League !!! Topic

This new new league will really be two progressive leagues in one. The NL will be a 12 team league starting in 1901 and the AL will be a 12 team league starting in 1941. No trading of players or draft picks will be allowed between the 2 leagues, so the NL will always only have players progressing from 1901 and the AL will only have players progressing from 1941.

One difficulty with progressives starting in 1901 is the shortage of players for a 16 team league as only 282 players are available in 1901. In this progressive, only 12 teams are drafting in the NL (1901) so the shortage is minimized at 18 players compared to a shortage of 118 players for a 16 team league. (see the excerpt from the league rules below for the handling of this minor shortage).

For the AL, which starts in1941, there is no shortage of players as 396 players are available with 300 needed. However, owners in the AL will face the challenge of coping with the loss of some of their best players from 1942-1945.

If interested in joining, please sign up below and specify whether you want the NL (1901) or AL (1941). Normally I do not like owners with 2 teams in a league, but given the nature of this league I am willing to consider allowing an owner to have 2 teams. Requests for a 2nd team will be accepted conditionally on the league not filling with 24 separate owners in a satisfactory time frame. I may take 2 teams myself but will wait to see how the league fills.

An excerpt from the most important league rules is posted below. Interested owners will be given immediate access to a temporary private forum I have set up for the league which contains the full league rules, the available player lists for 1901 and 1941, and where the two league drafts will be held.

The list of available teams and starting ballparks is also posted below. Each league (1901 and 1941) will have a separate random draft  (determined by random.org) for team selection after each league is full. This provision will insure that owners who join last will not necessarily have lille or no choice in team selection.

We are well into the draft and an owner has dropped from the 1901 league after making the first 13 draft picks. I have made picks through Round 17 and will continue to make picks until a replacement owner is found. The available team is the Brooklyn Dodgers.

The first 17 draft picks were as follows:
C   Heinie Peitz, Ed McFarland
1B Frank Chance, Frank Isbell
2B John Farrell
3B Bill Coughlin
SS Honus Wagner
OF Elmer Flick, Danny Green, Ducky Holmes, Dick Harley
P   Al Orth, Roy Patterson, Willie Sudhoff, Bill Phillips, Pete Dowling, Bert Husting

Interested owners will be given immediate access to the private forum where the draft is taking place. If you are interested, please post on page 3 of this forum.

Excerpt from team rules:

!!!. Teams. There will be 24 teams split into two 12 team leagues with separate drafts for 1901and 1941 (and thereafter separate keeper lists, available player lists etc.). Thus within each league for the initial draft only 300 players will be needed (12 x 25). The 1901 league will have a small shortfall of players (18) as only 282 players are available. For the 1941 league 396 players are available so no shortfall will exist. There will be a list of available teams and ballparks-please use the team names and ballparks provided.

IV. WIS Rules. We will use the 1969-1976 format with 4 6 team divisions, 4 teams making the playoffs, NO INTER LEAGUE PLAY except for the World Series. No DH, No WW, No Salary Cap, No Live play. Injuries off. Initially 6 position and 4 pitching average AAA players will be allowed to cover any shortfalls in PA or IP until such time as the Commissioner determines that AAA players are no longer necessary. No trades of players or draft picks between leagues-the NL will remain only 1901 players and the AL will remain only 1941 players.

V. Initial Draft. The initial draft will be 2 separate 22 round drafts, where each owner will choose 23 -25 players. The AL and NL will draft separately. (For the 1901 league (NL) there are only 282 players available, so 6 teams will be able to draft 24 players and 6 teams will draft 23 players. For the 1941 league all teams will draft 25 players). The drafts will be a standard serpentine draft. In other words, round 1 will be 1-12, round 2 will be 12-1, etc. The order will be determined by a random lottery using random.org. I will ask an owner from the other league to do the random lottery for my league.ONLY PLAYERS THAT ARE WIS ELIGIBLE IN 1901 OR 1941 MAY BE DRAFTED FOR THEIR RESPECTIVE LEAGUES.
Rounds 1-19 will be 1 player each
Rounds 20-22 will be 2 players each except that in the 1901 league the first 6 teams to draft in round 22 will get 1 player and the last 6 teams to draft will get no players.
.
For the 1901 league ONLY, the shortfall in players (18) will be made up by drafting players with a maximum salary of $200k from 2012. These players may be replaced by AAA players if desired once the season starts. 6 teams will have 1 2012 player and 6 teams will have 2 2012 players. All teams will also get 6 position and 4 pitching average AAA players.Any shortfalls in future seasons will be handled in the same way. 2012 players and AAA players may not be keepers for the following season.

Notes about teams and ballparks:

I have used the original 16 teams plus the first 8 expansion teams, resulting in the 24 franchises which existed from 1969 to 1976.

For the 8 original NL franchises, I have used the team names and ballparks which existed in 1901. For the 4 expansion NL franchises I have used the first ballpark used by the franchise until the time of the first ballpark move. This is not realistic since those ballparks did not exist in 1901 but was the closest I could come.

For the original 8 AL franchises I have used the team names and ballparks which existed in 1941. For the 4 expansion AL franchises (except Texas) I have used the first ballpark used by the franchise until the time of the first ballpark move. The Texas Rangers were originally the 2nd Washington Senators franchise but I have located them in Texas immediately and used their first ballpark. Again, these expansion ballparks did not exist in 1942.

AL 41. If allowed a second team, I'll go dead ball too.

I'll double up too.  If I have to choose, I'd prefer '41 but if it helps get this off the ground, then I can switch.

OK thanks-have you down for 2.

I've had a suggestion we go with 16 teams, 8 in each league. Unfortunately while that would not be too bad for 1901, for 1941 that would result in an "all-star" type of league-396 players available and only 200 needed.. I'm going to hold on and see if we can get to 24.
