so just out of curiousity...what keeps the league exciting when you have the same players with the same stats every single year?

I also wonder if it would be wise to include a rule saying you cannot draft one of these 1901 pitchers in the 1st round of any season's draft.....It would help prevent the top 2 or 3 teams from one year effectively ending the upcoming season by drafting Young and ensuring a second straight championship run.....could be disheartening for the previous year's also rans.
Remember that 1901 pitchers may not be keepers. If your team finished with the best record and you had Young (or Mathewson, Nichols, Waddell) you will be drafting 16th the following season and you won't necessarily get the same pitcher for 1902.

I would think the 1901 pitchers probably won't be 1st round picks. I would not pass up Feller or Newhouser who will have long careers for a pitcher I'm going to have for only one season.. We will dispense with the 1900's pitchers as soon as we have sufficient IP's.

I considered solving the IP issue by use of AAA pitchers but that methodology is a crap shhot-some teams will get much better AAA than others in the random draw.

There are still players retiring and rookies entering the league. So far the 1901 Career progressive league started by gigrant (entering it's 3rd season) has worked OK.

As examples, C Gabby Hartnett, 2B Buddy Myer and OF Chuck Klein are only in the league for one season as their careers end in 1941. OF Stan Musial, SS's Johnny Pesky and Vern Stephens join the league in 1942. There are other examples.

Will these be for just the first season or (what I'm looking for) the entire database?

It will only be the first season. Well before the start os the 1942 season I will post a spreadsheet for the 1942 season with the 1942 Rookies included and 1941 retirements excluded. A 1942 available player list will also be posted after all keepers are in.

I don't have a spreadsheet of the entire database.

There is more fluctuation to the stats than you might think.  The random nature of the sim keeps some variety to the stats.  Also with new pitchers coming in, old pitchers going out, it all effect the stats of the batters they face and of course the same holds true for the pitchers.

Well said. I was going to respond to this but couldn't have said it any better. Besides that, trying to build a team that can compete, year after year, is the reason I joined. Let's see what kind of a manager you are.      :)
