You have too few players on the AA Active roster. Topic

Please stop blocking us from adding players to our MinL roster before the season starts because we don't have enough players.

I know I don't have enough players. That's why I'm adding them.

This is a great check during the season. Maybe even during spring training.

But it's a pain in the *** before that. Just makes it harder to play the game.

Huh?

Are you implying that you don't understand what he's saying?

If you don't have enough players on a MinL team before spring training, and you try to add players, you get an error message until you add the 20th player.

So you can't go from 12 to 13 or 14.  You have to get over 20.

Workaround it to queue up a lot of pending transactions for several days until you get over 20.  If you do that, it's hard to see who's on what's team, if you still need more SP, etc.

It's one of the first things new players will have to deal with.  I don't see the sense in making something needlessly frustrating the 2nd day someone plays the game.

So make it 20.  You have to get there anyway.   What difference does it make if it's Day 2 or Day 15?

definitely a pain and frustrating for a new guy. Trying to remember how many P or whatever as you are trying to get them all up to 20 is sometimes tough. Even moreso for a new owner.

Do you guys not have this screen?

Active Roster Sizes (Current/Max)
MLB: 19/25 High A: 27/25
AAA: 24/25 Low A: 25/25
AA: 25/25 Rookie: 16/30

Total Roster Sizes (Current/Max)
40-Man: 40/40 High A: 37/35
AAA: 27/38 Low A: 29/35
AA: 33/37 Rookie: 16/30

The numbers change BEFORE you hit submit pending moves.

I kinda see the FNG's point.  If you had an inordinate number of retirements, your minor leagues can get gutted into single digits.  After you re-sign as many minor leaguers as possible, you're still grossly short of players, meaning you can't promote anyone until your teams have at least 20.  So you have to basically flood the FA market with MiL offers to rebuild your minors.

No excuse for an existing owner since you should take care of minimizing retirements during the previous season, but if you're taking over a mismanaged franchise, it can be frustrating.

Promote everyone from rookie to LoA.   Then work your way up the ladder until you have 20 at each level.
11/7/2011 2:44 PM
Ya, that's what I do.  But if he's taking over a mismanaged minor league system (like Theo Epstein), he might have trouble having enough players to allow him to promote freely.
11/7/2011 2:48 PM

I just promote everyone from Rookie to LOA, and then filter guys up the ladder. You can make moves without getting every level to the minimum as long as you arent moving guys off of rosters that are already below the minimum # of active players.

yeah, what mike said. Although it wouldnt break my heart to have this limitation lifted. Or, better yet..list players with pending moves, at their new level, hilighted as 'pending' on the GM screens.

That only tells you hard #s.
If you have signed a bunch of FAs and AA needs 2 Catchers and HiA needs 2 SS, etc etc and there is no pos listed next to the players listed in the pending roster moves list, it gets a bit blurry, as far as what positions you've already addressed.

Not a show stopper, but for a new owner, taking on a team that lost 30 guys to retirement, it is a bit much.
11/7/2011 3:10 PM
Well, I'll tell you why they do it.

More than one owner would fill out his BL roster and say to hell with the minors.  Then you'd have teams with 14-16 at each level.
11/7/2011 3:12 PM
Yeah I know.

I don't know that there is a "fix" for it.

But it would be nice to see the POS listed in that list. I think that would make it much easier to stay on top of it, while you are trying to go from 12 to 20, at each minor league lvl.
