I don't know what Minus the Bear album you listed to BLE, but I started listening to the new one in preparation for the show...  it is god awful.  Considering Planet of Ice was pretty bad, I'd say they lost it.  The second one and third one were pretty decent though.

It was a weird year for me...a lot more electronic and hip-hop than usual (especially at the top)...a lot less indie and folk.

A couple of things:
That list would change order top to bottom 35 times a week.  It really just depends how I feel and what I am listening to.

No hip hop, which is surprising for me considering how much I have.  Still, I haven't got as much in recent years because I don't talk to my friends wired into that scene as often.  I also haven't listened to Kanye yet.  Not sure I got a hip hop album all year.

Not sure if #1 or #4 are even in the top ten 3 months ago but I have been really digging those albums lately.

I really go back and forth on #3 a lot.  I think I want it to be a lot better than it actually is.

Two bands I like a lot, Band of Horses and Minus the Bear both released albums this year and I didn't even consider them for this list.  Those albums were awful.  The National barely squeaked in.

Yeah, Band of Horses was my runaway for worst album of the year...and High Violet was only average at best, I thought.  

Totally agree on Broken Bells...I revisit it every now and then, hoping it'll be better than it is.

I didn't hear a few of those...including 1 and 4...I'll give them a shot  in the next couple of weeks.

As for hip-hop...I mean, obviously I love Kanye's album, but it's its own weird beast, for just awesome beats and flow, there's no topping Big Boi's.

Not sure you will like #1, you might like #4.  I think these lists are better a year later.  My 2009 list would be way different now than it would have been last year.  First year, you are still trying to get used to the album...  at least I am.  I have 1917 albums currently on my iTunes...  it is hard to filter out all the new stuff and rank it properly.

You obviously haven't heard Minus the Bear - OMNI.  10 times worse.
