The sequester is a stupid way to run the government. They should trash it and go back to passing budgets.
I agree, too bad the Democrats and Obama haven't been able to even agree on a budget to submit, much less pass.

Blame for the budget mess lands at both parties.

The whole debt is the fault of both parties.

This specific issue if the fault of the Democrats. And mostly Obama.

He has lead the efforts to limit any cuts, expand overall spending, and increase tax revenue. Everything we do not need.
2/26/2013 7:21 PM
We shouldn't increase tax revenue or cut spending right now.
2/26/2013 7:25 PM
Yeah, we should cut spending.
2/26/2013 7:27 PM
Why take the money out of the economy? Continue to finance the debt at near zero interest rates and hope the economy grows. Growth is the best deficit reduction plan available.

**** hope.  Give me a plan.

We shouldn't increase tax revenue or cut spending right now.
The Hurricane Sandy Relief Bill is a prime example of what is wrong with Washington and why the reason NOT to cut spending is the biggest lame excuse as to why it can't be done.

$150 million for Alaskan fisheries, $2 million to the Smithsonian to repair roofs and $8 million to Homeland Security and the Justice Department to buy cars. And that's just the start. No, this is not Stimulus Part 2, this is the Hurricane Sandy Relief Bill, rightfully dubbed the "Sandy Scam."

As Matt Kibbe pointed out earlier, the Sandy Scam Bill whose total price tag is $60.4 billion, also contains:

  • $58.8 million for forest restoration on private land.
  • $197 million “to… protect coastal ecosystems and habitat impacted by Hurricane Sandy.”
  • $10.78 billion for public transportation, most of which is allocated to future construction and improvements, not disaster relief.
  • $17 billion for wasteful Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), a program that has become notorious for its use as a backdoor earmark program.

Senate Democrats are hoping to pass the bill before it gets too much attention. According to the Washington Times, "the Senate bill bypassed the committee process and is coming straight to the floor, where Majority Leader Reid announced that he would allow amendments — though he said he hopes to speed the bill through the chamber “very quickly.”"

"Out of the $60.4 billion in requested funding, about $55 billion is emergency spending above the spending levels authorized by the Budget Control Act," Kibbe said. While we're careening off the fiscal cliff, reckless lawmakers plan to spend more money we do not have and spend it on fish, no less.  According to the New York Post, even Mayor Bloomberg is unimpressed. "You would think they’d want to ask questions before they give away the public’s money," Bloomberg said.

Thousands of people were affected by Hurrican Sandy, many perished, homes were destroyed, communities annihilated and lives forever changed. But rather than focusing on providing desperately needed assistance to storm victims, Democratic lawmakers seek to capitalize on their tragedy by paying off cronies back home under the guise of emergency aid.

$150 million on fish... honestly.

Here's a plan.......

Cut out the wasteful spending (PORK), like what was added to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Bill and so many more that Congress pushes thru and maybe then Obama wouldn't have to scare people into thinking they are going to lose their jobs if a sequester goes thru that cuts spending in areas that actually are important.

Why is it Obama didn't scare the guys working in the fish factories in Alaska and tell the public that if we don't add this pork to the Relief Bill they'll lose their jobs? Bet you didn't hear him say anything about that on the news?

Plenty of places to cut spending without doing it in areas that are needed. Don't let the politicians BS you into believing otherwise.

Here's a plan......

Stop believing everything those conservative rags tell you. There's nothing in the bill that says anything about Alaskan fisheries.

The bill that got signed was HR 152. Feel free to read it and educate yourself, instead of relying on freedomworks, breibart, etc.

If the economy doesn't grow we're ****** regardless of the deficit.

Everybody is to blame for putting in this clusterfuck of artificial deadlines and mandatory consequences in place.

Obama gets more of the blame than the GOP because he's clearly shown that he's not willing to give an inch from his hard line stance of no spending cuts.  His game of chicken is going to drag down this country.

Well done, to all you numbnuts who voted this assclown in for another four years.

So what part of "**** hope.  Give me a plan" confused you?

You're the one who said "hope the economy grows"

I'm a little tired of "Let's do this and hope it works!!!!"

Polls show more blame on the Republicans for the sequester. Obama consistently asks for a mix of spending cuts and tax increases. Republicans keep a hard line stance of no tax increases.
2/26/2013 10:31 PM
Polls are bullshit.   Obama was re-elected just over 3 months ago.  Who wants to say "You know what?  I was a dumbass in November.  Guess I'll deal with it until 2016"?
