"That's stupid.   Gays do not want to marry nor will they ever!!!!" - circa 30 years ago
You think it's likely that the entire population will at some point turn gay and cause humans to become extinct?

You seem to think that it's likely that if only people over 30 procreated that the human species would become extinct.

I don't, but I don't think older parents are a desirable trait with respect to evolution

No idea.   I wasn't here when the earth was formed some 10,000 years ago.  Things change.

Can you guarantee it won't happen?

It seems extremely unlikely. So unlikely that we shouldn't worry about it. And it's guaranteed not to happen in our lifetime.

Yet we should worry about allowing a tiny percentage of the population to marry?   Insignificant in the big picture.

That actually does affect people during their lifetime. That's what counts.

You guys are either super bored or super stupid.     Which is it?
...
6/11/2013 2:21 PM
What exactly is my reasoning?

You're so confused, you don't even remember what you said a few posts ago (and are apparently too lazy to re-read it to figure it out for yourself).

You indicated you felt there was no problem with anything that "won't impact the human race as a whole". THAT was your reasoning.

I pointed out how it was flawed, leaving you with two options: Leave it as flawed as it is, or amend your reasoning in an attempt to fix the flaws. So far you've left it as it is and ignored the flaws.

Fix your flawed argument or give it up.

6/11/2013 2:26 PM
Is that what I said? Or was I responding to a specific point brought up by tec?
6/11/2013 2:31 PM
Your line of reasoning is flawed, regardless of what you were responding to, how fast you typed it up, or if you were standing on your head while you did it.

So are you going to amend your reasoning to fix the flaws or are you going to give up on the reasoning altogether?

6/11/2013 2:47 PM
My line of reasoning only applied to that specific point.

Which one is not like the others?

SSM doesn't affect me.   I don't care.
The possibility of the entire human race becoming gay in our lifetime doesn't affect you.   You don't care.
SSM doesn't affect you.  You care deeply.

My line of reasoning only applied to that specific point.

As much as I'm sure you'd like that to be the case, in the real world, it doesn't work that way.  You don't get to make up a flawed line of reasoning and then declare that it is only applicable to one specific point when it can clearly be applied to other situations.

So once again: Are you going to amend your flawed line of reasoning or you are going to give up on that reasoning altogether?

Here's what happened:

Tec said (paraphrasing): Homosexuality is not ok because it isn't good for evolution

I said: Lots of things aren't good for evolution -  straight couples choosing not to have kids and couples waiting until they are older are two examples. Just because something isn't good for evolution, doesn't mean it isn't acceptable.

bistiza said: murder doesn't affect evolution, it must be ok by your reasoning.
