Among other things, it legitimizes the heads of a traditional family.  You know, "mommy" and "daddy".

I don't know about you, but when I was a kid, all of my classmates, friends, cousins, etc. came from households that had a mom and dad who were married to each other.

There was the occasional divorce situation, and the even rarer widow/widower situation, but everybody else was a member of a family with a mom and dad who were married to each other.

Thought I'd mention that in case you wanted to know what "family" means.

I think you're confusing "what 'family' means" with "what 'family' means to me."  In many cultures the nuclear family includes grandparents, for example.  It's not only homophobic but also horribly ethnocentric to assume that you can just say "family means mom & dad + kids."

Two dads aren't family? Holy ****. Ok, I get what you mean now.

Here's a scene from that horribly homophobic and ethnocentric television show from the 1950's, "Father Knows Best".

Hope you don't find that too offensive.

Scene doesn't seem like its telling me what isn't family.

Does it seem odd to you that some people might have such a bizarre idea of "family" (mom, dad, kids)?  Does it make you feel uncomfortable?

Gay couples already adopt children. Allowing them to marry strengthens family.

We already had the discussion about gay couples and children.  Go back and re-read it if you've forgotten.

I think the same thing could be said about everything posted for the last 100 pages.

Allowing gay parents to marry strengthens families.

You don't think a family is better off if the parents are married?

It does make me uncomfortable that people have that narrow a worldview, yes.

It also makes me extremely uncomfortable when other conservatives tell me how bad it is for gay couples to adopt children.  I think they've clearly either A) never seen or B) totally ignored statistics on how well the lives of children raised by same-sex couples are likely to turn out relative to foster children.

Not necessarily.
