It's only "their money" because good ol Uncle Sam took it out of YOUR pocket and gave it to them.

No one took it from me. I pay taxes. That's the deal. In exchange, I get to live here.

"It's none of your business"? They're spending YOUR money.

That's where the big divide is right there. Conservatives are perfectly willing to help those who truly need help. We don't want to help the scammers and the lazy and the people that feel drugs and alcohol are part of their "needs" to get by.

Some people are poor due to bad circumstances, but there are tons who are poor due to poor choices. Subsidizing those poor choices is NOT helping them.
It's not my money. It's their money.

There is no way to know who uses drugs without testing. So now, without probably cause, we have to test everyone on unemployment in order to catch the percentage that may or may not be drug addicts.

It's expensive and a privacy violation.
To bastardize what Dirty Harry once said "Well, I'm just all broken up about their privacy".

So anybody who doesn't pay taxes, i.e. illegal aliens, should not get to live here?

That sounds very Tea Party-ish.  How does that fit in with your otherwise liberal and progressive agenda?

Drug testing is not expensive.   $60.    It's not even an administrative nightmare.     Employee walks in and they're told "Random.  Go to X.   You've got two hours to get there."     BOOM, done.

And how about those below the poverty level who don't pay taxes?  Should they all be rounded up and escorted to the border?

Everyone living here pays some form of taxes. Even illegal aliens (especially since many of them have jobs and pay income taxes).

Once again, everyone living here pays some form of taxes.

The real question is "Why shouldn't they be?"

Yet another thing GWB got into law and Obama proliferated it.

The lifeline program actually started under Reagan in 1984.

Sure. Maybe there's one guy living in a cabin in the woods not paying taxes but, other than the extreme outlier, everyone pays some form of taxes.

The original Lifeline program is for land lines, not cell phones.  Dumbass II brought it to cell phone era.

I don't see the problem either way.

The discount phone service program started in 1984. It was later updated as technology evolved.
