NASCAR has made a **** ton of bad decisions. Moving tracks happened partly because people weren't going to some of the tracks anymore. Rockingham and North Wilkesboro were losing cash. Bigger problem, track-wise was moving those races to cookie cutter, follow the leader superspeedways that are boring as ****. California, Texas, Michigan, and Las Vegas are a snorefest.
They changed the cars so much that it priced out the good-ole boy Southern folks, and now the drivers are no-personality Californians. The Chase is just a weird system, one that can't stop tweaking to make it more weird.
There haven't been good-ole boy Southern folks for decades. Car owner/driver that turns his own wrenches left the building a long time ago in NASCAR. Sponsors pay the bills, no one funds their own ride.
Rockingham, North Wilkesboro and Darlington all lost races. But you are right about moving those races to 1.5m ovals and boring the **** out of everyone.
But, again, the point is NASCAR is going all PC at the expense of their base, the good-ole Southern boys flying their Confederate flags in the infield playing horseshoes and drinking warm Bud. I'm not sure who they think they're going to bring in by trying to remove those flags. If they want to be politically correct and diversify, good for them. But that's not the business model that works for them.
