I'm in a situation where I'm in a heated battle for an IFA. I know the other owner bidding for the IFA. We are #1 and #2 in terms of money left. I have the #4 pick in a weak draft and he has the #6 pick. IFA entered the picture on 1/26 at 11:00 PM2 Part 2 cycle. If I won right now, I'd only have $3M left for my draft pick. I have a few players with salaries between $1-1.5M that I might be able to trade, or I could try and make a trade to get cash. The draft is 3-4 days away.

Would you continue bidding and find a way to clear up the money for the draft pick? Or, would you give up knowing you would get the best IFA remaining?

He is going to be a 2B who can rake.    Since you have 4th pick, you know you're getting top 2-3 on your board.   If I felt I could clear up money to get this IFA and sign my pick, $3,720,000 is slot money, I'd want him because you know.    If I lacked the confidence to get both, I'd cross my fingers and wait on the next guy.  

What would you do mike? I am in a battle for a top free agent. I know I offered the max contract first...right as the free agent period started....But the previous owner just offered the max contract a day after mine....but he has a hitting coach 2 points better than mine..... a better ball park and of course is the previous owner....I know he is worth the wait, but if he does not choose me(which is likely) I am afraid the other free agents will drop before I can make bids for them.  If what I read is true about the "tie breakers" I am left out in the cold on all of them...so would you pack up and let him be and go after maybe  2-3 other guys to fill my offensive void?

Is he going to be as good as it seems? Has gone up 9 points for 2 seasons in a row in ratings.....which I have never had....

As always, it depends on needs/availability.   I don't have much experience with max contracts(I've issued one and lost out on another).   If you're not top guy after a few cycles, you're not going to be top guy.   I'd move on if there were other FA who could fill my needs.    If there aren't, I'd leave my offer out there and hope something changes when coach hiring is complete or, maybe, the top bidder tries to play a game and lower his bid to get him cheaper.

A 21 year old max free agent?!?!?  Did the previous owner quit or something?  Never seen anything like it in the world I play in.  Does this happen often in other worlds?

This is ultimately meaningless but I'm curious as to whether you know:  Why do some players show up, in the results of the amateur draft, listed at different positions than they were on the prospect list?  It's not because they were reassigned by the owners, in many cases it's happened before they've even signed. 

I've never noticed but, if I were guessing, I'd say it's the difference scouting budgets.  College scouting projects him as a 2B while ADV says he'll be a SS.

Does getting voted to the All-Star Game play a role in the demands of a Free Agent at any point in time?

I don't believe it does.  Nor does winning an award.

I seriously don't understand that question.  The "FA" part in particular.    Players declare for FA before you can trade.   Players who are FA cannot be traded.
