If he's picked up, the other owner picks up the pro-rated minimum.   If a player has a mutual option and you release him during the season before his option, you'll be responsible for 25% that season.

What makes a good setup man? I always feel like I know one when I see them but then they end up with an ERA that is massive.

Also, just made a trade for an SP and a reliever. Who should I drop from this squad?

I'm moving Bocachina but then who should be the second player?

I can't imagine Lincoln continuing to produce like he has.

Short relievers are tough.    I mostly look past the total and look at individual outings.   2 runs over 50 innings will increase the ERA by .36.   That's a walk and a homer.  If he has two of those his ERA might increase from 3.30(which would be pretty good) to 4.02(which is just average).   That's 4 bad AB.   But, if the guy had 48 good outings and those two, you'd probably be pretty happy with the result.

How high does a guys patience need to be to prevent a rating hit when you demote them from the majors to AAA?

I imagine there will be a bunch of factors to this but will a patience rating over 60 prevent the hit for a guy 27+?

I have no idea.   Only 'tards do that with players they actually care about.

I know you're not into social media, but I'll ask the question anyway.

A non-immediate family member is inadvertently posting what can only be characterized as gay porn on his social media page.  He's an older man, has never come "out",  I doubt he's ever acted on them, but clearly has latent homosexual tendencies.  He would probably be mortified if he knew that he was inadvertently sharing these photos.

My wife and I have "unfollowed" him, and I went into my son's social media account and unfollowed him there as well, as I don't wan my son seeing these pictures.

Should I say something to him about "did you know that you're doing this?", and if so, how do I do it discretely without completely embarrassing him?
A followup on this.  I eventually did play the "was your Facebook account hacked" card, and he came out to me as gay.

Whatever.  I ended up talking on the phone to him after his "coming out" email to me, and we're cool.

However . . . yesterday, he sent me a second "coming out" email in which he informed me that he has two (or maybe three . . . it's very confusing) other "spirits" living in his body.  They are the spirits of Japanese Kamakazi pilots who died in the closing days of WWII, and were instructed to enter his body by Jesus Christ about a week after he was born (July 1945).  They (he and these other beings) are now working together on "missions" every day to "protect our Sacred Homeland" (i.e. Japan).  He lives in a retirement home in Mississippi, but he also tells me that his spirits travel daily between Mississippi and Japan, I assume to carry out said missions (I have no idea what those are supposed to be).

Obviously, some severe mental health issues going on here.

My question: unless and until there appears to be any risk to the physical health of either himself or others, do I just go along with this, knowing he's completely nuts, or should I try to contact somebody down there for some sort of intervention?  He has no other family (he's alienated everybody but me with what up until now was viewed as eccentricities, but is now something much, much more), and I doubt he has any close friends where he is, and I think he's spending all of his days on his computer.

If you have any religious faith, you're putting it in spirits.   If you have dual/split personalities, you probably have some mental illness but I think that's just a protection device.   The thing that would concern me are the "missions to protect our Sacred Homeland".   If those missions are writing "strongly worded letters" to the Mayor, it's no big deal.  That could be sitting at a computer all day.   However, if the missions are collecting the ingredients to make bombs, there's a problem brewing.   I'd ask about the missions.   I'd hate to say "contact the authorities" but, if his missions are putting the public in danger, it has to be done.

I'm still trying to figure out how to respond.  I just got the email yesterday afternoon.  Asking about the nature of "the missions" is one of the things I'm already going to do.

My gut feeling is that "the missions" are nothing more than things going on in his head.  But my primary and immediate concern is determining if he's a physical threat to either himself or anybody else.

Is this question the early frontrunner for "Question of the month" for August in this thread?

8/4/2015 10:37 AM
I think the missions will determine if he's a threat.    It's been a slow month so, sure, QotM so far.

Is it fair to say that Clowney inherited his killer instinct from his father?
8/4/2015 3:07 PM
I'm pretty sure he didn't kill anyone.   I'm not sure he hit anyone.   Much like Clowney in the NFL.

Is this the last season in Oakland for the Raiders? Are we Los Angeles bound again?
8/4/2015 4:41 PM
I really haven't been following it very much.  Last I heard, STL, SD and Oakland were three potential candidates.   STL was working on a stadium deal and SD/OAK were looking at some shared super stadium.   Somebody ends up in LA.   And, like always, LA doesn't care after 2-3 years.
8/4/2015 5:11 PM
I live in LA now. Would it surprise you if I said it won't take 2-3 years for LA not to care? That we don't care right now? (And I am an NFL fan)
8/4/2015 5:35 PM
No, it wouldn't surprise me.   LA will show up for a winner.   But leave early.
