Claimed off waivers and 40 man roster Topic

I am sure this questions has been asked and answered somewhere in the forums, but I am going batty trying to find the answer.

I waived a player on my 40 may roster with option yeas left.  He was claimed by another owner, but he did not have to assign him to his 40 man roster.  Why is this?  It seems to me that if he was on the 40 and claimed, he would have to retain his 40 status.  I really don't care about losing the player, but it just seems, I don't know, unfair.

I believe this is working correctly.

yeah, because he has options left, you are basically releasing the guy. if someone claims him and he has options left, he can be hidden in aaa if desired.

if he had no options left, i believe the claimer would have to keep the guy on his 40 man

I'm not sure I follow Tec?  I'm not saying it isn't correct, I just don't understand why.  why doesn't 40 man status carry over in a waiver claim?

It just seems counter logical to me.  The only way to get him off my 40 was to waive him.  That's all I was hoping to do.

The stuff I'm looking at says that in real-life you're correct and he would have to go the claiming team's 40.  I don't see anything about an exception for guys with option years, and it doesn't seem like there should be, since options don't have anything to do with space on your 40, only whether he can be assigned to the minors or not.

This link seems to concur:

So maybe it's a bug.  The O.P. should open a ticket.

looking at his transactions log, my question would be to wis. he was added to a 40 man 2 seasons ago, yet there is no mention of being removed from a 40 man, yet he is not on a 40 man now. i'd send them a ticket and ask when/how that happened.

thanks for the help everyone!

Since he had an option year, you should have designated without waivers.

I'm assuming that he was taken off the 40 when claimed by the new team.  That's the original poster's question . . . should this have happened?

I thought that if I did that, I still lose control of the player if I do not act on him in 10 days - so essentially, this will get him waived.

i'm gonna assume it shouldn't have. and if it did it would have been noted in his (the players) transactions log. maybe i'm wrong on both counts
