oes order of pitches matter? Topic

I have a guy whose pitches project to be 81 - 69 - 54 - 84 - 46. Does the fact that he has a good P1 &P4 matter? Would it be better if that 84 in P4 was in P2, or is it irrelevant?

It's a commonly held belief that P1 is more important than P2 and so on down the line.

It's just a matter of figuring out how much.   And I'm not sure anyone knows.

Gotcha, Thanks Mike

I think a high PC catcher would call the 4th pitch more often..

No.  Individual pitches are not called.  That's been refuted ad-nauseum.

The catcher's PC is a modifying variable.  One variable in the overall algorithm for determining the result of a plate appearance.

What if a true knuckleballer is on the mound?   That's different, right?

Depends on who the team owner is.

The optimal combination is a pitcher with 2 pitches, knuckle ball and fast ball. He needs very low velocity (because knuckleballs are slow duh), and he needs to have a left handed throwing second baseman behind him to turn double plays faster.

That seems to negate some sage advice recently offered that the "Big Three" of velocity, groundball, and P1 all over 90 totally compensate for crappy splits.

RANGERUP!!!! WE NEED A RULING!!!! PREFERABLY ONE THAT ADDS NOTHING TO THE CONVERSATION AND MAKES NO SENSE!!!!

And the dev chat ruling on the catcher's input...

How much and what sort of impact does a catcher's pitch-call rating have on a pitcher's performance? (will_prosper - Hall of Famer - 11:48 AM)

A catcher's pich calling rating impacts the pitcher on the mound's OAV used in the engine. The difference between an average catcher and the worst or best catcher is significant. We don't want to provide exact numbers. The best way to see this setting at work is to compare your #1 C with your #2 C since they both are receiving for the same pitching staff.

Which I believe to be true to the extent of ~.5 ERA difference between a 50 PC and an 80 PC, on average.

We got some lefty 2Bs in my slo-pitch rec league, and they do just fine.  I'll bring out a videocamera one of these days to film one, and you'll all see that there's no discernible problem
