When trading after the trade deadline, who needs to pass waivers before being traded?

Just Major Leaguers

Or anyone on the 40 man roster?

can you just designate a guy off of the 40 man then trade him?

When you designate someone, they still have to pass waivers first.

From my experience you don't have to waive them unless they're out of options.  Also, you can designate them off the 40 and then waive them 10 days later, right?

You can designate them though unless they are out of options.  I don't know how many days it is.

Even if they are out of options you may still designate without waivers. However, you can not assign them back to the minors if a trade doesn't materialize.

If you designate them without waivers and do not assign or waive them afterwards, the AI will automatically RELEASE them after 10 real life days.

If you wait until the DAY AFTER the transaction deadline (EXAMPLE: deadline is at 3AM on the 23rd, you wait until sometime AFTER the AM cycle on the 24th) to make the "designate without waivers" move and end up not being able to trade the guy, you can just add them to the BL Roster on day 9, which will be the "roster expansion" day (provided you have the cap space, of course).

I think I get most of that.  After the transaction deadline, can you designate w/o waivers and then trade a guy (and maintain his playoff eligbility for acquiring team)?  It would seem nobody would really HAVE to clear waivers if that's the case?

no

i believe the hard and fast rule is after the transaction deadline, in order to trade a player, he would have to clear waivers. if someone claims him you can only trade to that team.

Just to clarify-- only for players on the 40-man. You can always trade guys not on the 40.

That's the question I'm trying to get answered.  If I designate someone after the transaction deadline can I then trade him freely since he's not on the 40 man roster OR does he have to clear waivers since he WAS on the 40 man at the transaction deadline?  Thanks.

You're looking for a loophole that doesn't exist.

thanks.  just making sure.  you should have to waive guys to get them off the 40, but since you don't I wasn't sure how big the loophole was.
