2 DHs. Where to play? Topic

On an AL team, I have two players that would be best at DH, but both have a bat that I want in my lineup. With both having 70s durability there will be a lot of days off where one can DH while the other sits, but I am pondering what to do the rest of the time. Conventional wisdom would probably put Moya in the lineup as a weak fielding 1B (has averaged 1 minus play every 20 innings) while Becker, a bad PC catcher, plays DH. But is that actually the best approach for this game?  Is it better to put Moya at DH and use Becker as a "MikeT" RF? That move would also allow me to use a player at 1B who would be generating + plays, which would likely occur with more frequency than the - plays in RF. Obviously since I am here I am leaning towards the RF option, but am curious to see thoughts/experiences.

You know what I think.   FB has been a complete disaster at 1B.

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Kevin Ryu is actually playing a decent RF these days.

I know that. I just acquired him this offseason, so it was the previous team playing him at 1B. Playing a catcher at 1B was a bad idea even before they did the updates to defense ~ 3 years ago.

Moya is the only potential 1B, where he stinks as well, just not quite as profoundly as Becker.

It completely depends on who the third player in the equation is.

If you look at the rightfielder thread from Mike, all those guys make about 9-20 (-) plays a season at RF.  Moya goes about 6 (-) plays per season at 1B, and that doesn't account for the fact that (-) plays in RF probably cost more bases than (-) plays at 1B.  So in a vacuum, it makes sense to play Moya at 1B and Becker at DH; it probably saves 5-15 runs a season.

But the kicker is, whom can you get to play 1B if you play Becker in RF, and whom can you get to play RF if you play Moya at 1B?  I mean, if you had a stud legitimate RF on the team this wouldn't even be a decision.  On the Yankees, Jacquez seems to solve the 1B problem, and I don't see a plausible RF (didn't run your minors) and you should therefore play Becker in RF.

I play DHs at 1B in the minors when I have to, but I wouldn't do it in the majors. 1B handles too many chances, and it just feels to me like the entire infield plays better when the 1B is rock solid. As I understand it, the MikeT RF concept is based on the ideas that the RF handles the least chances, and that Range/Glove seem less important to the position in this game. So that's where you put your worst glove.

In the Moya at 1B, Becker at DH scenario,  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Kid Peters plays RF,  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Damaso Jacquez plays LF, with  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Miguel Sanchez available as an extra COF/PR. Got a young stud with low patience in AAA who will be coming up to play 3B, so I am doing the 20 day wait to get another season out of him.

Since Jacquez is a slightly negative LF, a move to 1B turns him into a plus defender and then Kid Peters would be a plus defender in LF. I actually think my overall defense is better with Becker in RF and Moya as the regular DH. So this is a no-brainer.

Thanks to everyone for input.

I play this GUY  in RF which may be a bad choice... I think they mustve made an adjustment to DEF in last 12 months as you can see the huge difference in -plays between S8 and S9..

So far in S10 he has probably cost me 1 win in the first 20 games due to a negative play...

You ignored the guy I posted.  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Kevin Ryu

He's getting better.   So I'll say they must have not made an adjustment.

I realize that. But he is the same dead arm RF in S9 and S10 that he was in S8.. Mike's guy kind of shows how it was probably just luck in S8 rather than a change made by WIS..
