Worth a long term contract? Topic

I'd care less about his control rating and more about his results.  Do you think 1.50 WHIP and 4.72 ERA in 500+ innings is worth a long-term deal?   Or do you think you can get that sort of production from a low-level FA during ST or even from a call-up?

Agreed with Mike. When you evaluate by cost per result, you may have to stop looking at ratings.

By the time someone reaches "long-term contract" status, you should have an idea of who he is.   Now you may feel he's been mismanaged(no idea if he's been on your team very long) but, other than that, he's a below-average pitcher.   And below average pitchers don't carry a lot a value with me.

I'd expect better results long-term from those ratings, but 500+ innings is looking like a big enough sample size to judge.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here... obviously this player doesn't deliver what his ratings suggest, even with 47 Control, but is he worth hanging onto through his third arb because with those ratings, he might be a Type A?

He'll be a Type A.  But I wouldn't pay him 6.8m in his last season in hopes of getting a sandwich pick and 2nd/3rd rounder.
