Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Jim Redmond

I
gnore the 18 game cup of coffee in S27, I was brand new to the game and didn't understand the player roles so I was using him as LH specialist which is comical in hindsight (Simmy only uses him to face the other team's best hitter haha).

His stats have been consistently good in minors in a neutral park, and his control, P1-P2, GB, and velocity are all very good.

He's probably a AAAA guy at best but do we suppose he could get by in the majors as a league-min-salary setup B?

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
Minor league stats should NEVER be trusted as an indicator of ML talent.

Minor league stats can be a good indicator if a couple of things are true.

1) It's a pitcher. Hitters can face fatigued pitching and get skewed quickly. Pitchers, not so much.
2) You have a large sample size. Probably at least 200IP. Preferably more.
3) You take the results in context with other pitchers on the same squad.

You do not have criteria #2

And honestly, if a pitcher has ~20 splits, it doesn't matter if all of his other ratings are 100. He will not be successful at the ML level.

If those splits were in the 40's, I might stick him in the Show to see how he went, even if just to satisfy my curiosity. If they were in the 50s, I think he'd be serviceable.

In the teens and 20s, not so much....

what if control, vel, gb, and P2 were each 90? How can we (you) all know for sure that splits are the end-all be-all of the algorithm? i would consider trying him at roster expansion but i'm not sure if simmy would even let him get any appearances.  I suppose i could force it to if I really tried...

ps I think boogerlips makes a good argument as it pertains to official forum protocol.

Why ask a question if you're not going to accept the answer?   Use the guy.   He'll suck then you can come back and say "Yeah, he sucked."

I shouldn't even have to do this but here's the tools you need to see for yourself the value of splits.

Find two pitchers with similar control, vel, GB, P1-P2 but one with splits in the 70s, the other with splits in the 50s in your world.   Shouldn't be hard.   Which one is better?

Because we've seen similar pitchers with splits in the 40s struggle. So....

The guy has only 13 innings in the majors but I would guess that any sample size would look about the same as those 13 innings. He looks capable of getting a strikeout if an at bat goes his way, but any decent hitter should crush him. The ratings say he more or less throws dead straight pitches.

Why was this guy the 4th pick in the 1st round?
7/31/2014 2:09 PM
Terrible pick. The owner who drafted him is either completely incompetent or one of the most egregious tankers in the game:

He once had a 13 win season, and he has made the playoffs once in 103 total seasons.

Another oddity: he was drafted in season 24, but his ratings don't show a line for season 25. Why is that?
7/31/2014 3:34 PM
He didn't play.
7/31/2014 3:42 PM
that owner isn't an egregious tanker he just doesn't know how to do things correctly ...
