defensive liability at SS Topic

I really dislike the logic of "damn near impossible".

I've already said I wouldn't play your guy at SS.   But I can EASILY imagine building a decent team where is would make sense to use him at SS.  You decide winning games 19-17 is fun.   You slap your team in a hitter's park and go about acquiring big hitters and high durability/stamina pitching.    Lemon is your best fielder(but far from your best hitter or you muffed it).   He plays SS.   You score 2900 runs and give up 2600.    It would be fun.

Of course, I thought of using the failed C in RF so you have to be able to think outside the box.  After all, a win is a win.   Beyond that, you don't have media, fans or troublesome owners telling you how stupid you are if you give up 2900 runs while scoring 2600.   There's just really no situation that can't be imagined.  Putting it in play might be more difficult but using Lemon at SS wouldn't be the most unreasonable move ever made in HBD.
I don't think it would be impossible to build a team that is decent. I just think that that team, once constructed, will be better by finding a $327k, .580 OPS, GG-Caliber SS to fill the role, and then slide everyone else down one slot on the defensive ladder. The team would be in even better shape if it acquired the .327k SS before spending $2-4 mill on the guy that he replaces.

I don't know.  Before injuries, the logic of putting Kreuter at SS came about because I had too many bats to get in the line-up.   A lot of those bats were/are cheap.   Injuries and fatigue moved him back to 2B and put Gonzalez, my D-Spec, back in a starting role.

Kreuter =/= Lemon

I already said I don't hate him at SS and can see him being a reasonable start, depending on roster construction.

On that team, I would play Kreuter at SS. But I would also be looking to move a bat to get a top flight SP, which might land Kreuter at 2B or 3B.  It is a pretty exceptional lineup

Edwards and Cox are on the DL.   Booker, Ueno and Keller are fatiguing.   That pretty much opened the door for Gonzalez to get some SS starts.   And is the reason I'm not moving any of them for a pitcher.

Sometimes it's just a mixed bag when it comes to results.  Kreuter isn't as bad as your guy but he's not GG-type either.   I wasn't happy with his results so I moved back to Gonzalez who is a GG-type.

Using my PPPS, here's the results after 360ish innings each.

Kreuter is better.   But here's Kreuter before I made the move:

How did Kreuter get so much better over the last 133 innings?
Mike, would you mind expounding on the Total and PPPS numbers a bit? I would bet you have explained it elsewhere, but I cannot find it. Thanks.

It's a simple formula I use to compare players on my teams with varying degrees of defensive ability.

For IF, A+positive plays-errors-negative plays.
I divide that total by innings played.
I multiple that total by 1458(the number of innings for 162x9)

It's Positive Plays Per Season and it's meant to represent the number of good results less the number of bad results over a full 162, 9 inning game season.

It varies from team to team, league to league but it's a good, rough way to measure the sort of production you're getting from your defensive players in season and from season to season.

Edited.
