Successful Hitter with Zero Power? Topic

I'm debating trying to trade for a fella who I project as a centerfielder with around the following numbers:
Contact: 85-90
POWER: 0
vL: 70-75
vR: 60-65
Eye: 70-75
Basebrunning: 65-70
Speed: 80-85
Range: 85-90
Glove: 80-85

I see him as a nice leadoff hitter/centerfielder. But, alas, zero power. Anyone have any thoughts on a player with such little power?

If he's a switch hitter, he'll be OK.

If he's a RH hitter, he won't be anything to write home about.

He has good speed too; I'm not sure I'd consider a guy like that without good speed.

Remember, it's not how much power necessarily, they're just grades. His power is probably awful but it doesn't mean he won't ever hit a dinger. That would be like someone with 0 speed not having legs

What's his bunt number?

Is it just me. I have found hitters with power under 30 to be up and down. Hits 290/340/360 one season then 240/300/320 the next.

Here's my 0 power lead off guy with speed: Herman Williams

Averages 165 hits a season, draws an occasional walk, steals a shitload of bases and averages 90 runs scored a season. Plays a good CF as well.

Billy Hamilton with better Contact.

Actually, in HBD guys with zero power hit zero outside-the-park homers. If you look at the play-by-play for a player with 0 power and a homer or two, those will be inside-the-park homers. It may not make sense to you but it's the way it's programmed.

In my opinion the player you're considering trading for is a not likely to be an impact player. Even taking the high end of the ranges, and assuming he switch-hits, he's going to hit about .300/.370/.350 in a neutral park, and he'll be a plus basestealer but not overwhelmingly so (35 SB in 45 tries). That plays, but it's not high-end performance, and at the low end and batting left (players with ratings like this rarely bat right) he's about .280/.350/.320 and won't help your team more than a little bit on the basepaths (think 20 steals in 28 attempts or so).

I guess it also depends on what you have to give up for him, and what your other CF options are.

Here is a guy I had with 2 power.Alex Izturis

He was a switch hitter but his splits were really low. Great in centerfield....150 plus plays in center.

Your guy has significantly higher splits but Izturis had 99 speed.

Based off my experience with Izturis....I would try a guy like you are proposing.

Thanks guys! Some food for thought here.

It figures to be about a 45.

The bunt number might impact my answer a little bit. I looked at my team records for infield hits and Izturis held the first 5 at all numbers over 50 so say a 1/3 of his hits each year were infield hits.

Man, if I get a CF with 85/80 range/glove with an OPS of .720 and 35 steals, I think I'm killing it.

You think he's sort of turdly. I need to play in your worlds.
