Schmidt rolling for season 24 (closed) Topic

Gentle Reader,

Schmidt World has ONE opening left (franchise #2, below), and it includes a $25 credit.  That's a free season to get you started in Schmidt, contingent on a 2-season commitment.

Help Schmidt roll:  a free season and instant popularity!

1. NL East: former St Louis L'amours franchise. (claimed)

Legendary HBD GM sermon author did a masterful job mobilizing the latent talent in the franchise, building a dominant team strong in pitching and offense, employing a mix of prospects, rising stars and elite vets.

Can you believe  this guy is only 27 y.o. and has hit 331 HRs?  And that he's got a 94-overall rating and could legitimately play SS?  This other guy is only 26, with most of his ML service time still ahead, and poised to be a regular all-star/gold glover at 3B.

Pitching?  Easy:  It starts with an elite
one - two - three combo in the rotation, and the kid in the 4th slot is no slouch either.  And the bullpen is anchored by a stud.

This is by no means the extent of the depth in this franchise.  Just for kicks, check out the ML-ready talent hanging out at AAA and mopping up in the bigs, and count the trade chips available to you:  1 2 3 4 5 6…  and I've stopped counting, but only because pasting these links into the post is tedious.

Summary:  ready to win-now, and still stocked with talent and trade chips to sustain the operation long-term. Premium franchise available to a veteran GM.

2. NL South:
former LIttle Rock Red Stockings franchise (pending)

Are you looking for a re-build?  Then look no further.  Here we find a very low payroll and almost non-existent future contract obligations and a high draft pick in the upcoming amateur draft (pick #4).  Thus, you can legitimately plan to immediately start tailoring this roster and farm system to your own specs without any hangover from the previous regime.

As mentioned before, the team is free of most contract commitments, but a couple roster highlights include
a slugging catcher and a solid, well-rounded 27 y.o. 3B.  Last year's top draft pick should give you a powerful switch-hitting bat in RF for years to come.

Promotion:  taking on this franchise earns you $25 in credit.  Accepting this offer also means committing to the subsequent season (season 25); Rome wasn't built (or re-built) in a day, after all.  Neither was Detroit.

Happy to consider new and relatively inexperienced owners to take on this franchise.

A little bit about Schmidt:

Of all HBD worlds, Schmidt might have the deepest roster of skilled owners who have won 1 or several world series titles. This is a very good world for swapping strategies, polishing skills and testing your stuff against quality competition.

Inexperienced owners are welcome. Our veteran owners have historically been very generous with advice and coaching, but we also recommend new owners refrain from trades for the first season as they learn the ropes.

We have a minimum win requirement (MWR) to discourage tanking.  Fall below the threshold (120 wins over 2 seasons) and a 5-member committee reviews the case and recommends either dismissal or probation. That 120 win threshold for 2 seasons is generally pretty easy to meet, even if you're trying to exit a few veteran contracts and pursue prospects.

Highest priorities are good humor and minimal drama.

We look forward to hearing from you! You may post below or sitemail the commish (me).

3. AL North: former Montreal Bears franchise (claimed)

Wow.  This franchise is one brutal SOB, and has spent the last 7 seasons punishing  the punks in the AL community.

This franchise has OWNED the American League, making seven straight World Series appearances before this past season.  That is not a typo:  seven straight AL typos.  There are no albatross contracts, and most of the talent from the dominant run is still under control and in its prime:  Cy Young perennials
Clarence Boyle and Alan Valentine, plus younger CY aspirant Dwight Walker and über-reliever Willie Arroyo.  And it's not just pitching… what does a 5-time MVP look like?  Like this: Carlos Diaz.  'Nuff said.  Only because Diaz is on the team can you poo-poo the potent bats of Bert Gerut and Melky Espinosa, who together make it impossible to pitch around Diaz.

Seriously…  how many franchises do you know that have this kind of assembled talent, all signed at hometown discount prices?

This franchise is ready to win now and win big.  It's a wartime franchise ready for a wartime consigliere.     Is it you?
